I played it a few times, I am just not a regular. I know people that never miss a drawing. I even know a few that are asking their higher power to show them numbers. For me a lottery is no more then a raffle with a slim chance of winning, while others have the mind set that it is a sure thing that they will win.
Well, up here in Canada our two big lotteries are the Lotto 6/49 (you pick six numbers from a total of 49 to 'win'). The pool starts off at $2 000 000 and rolls over twice per week if no one wins, and the other one is called Super 7, where you choose seven from 49 numbers; this one starts off at $2.5 million...both are tough. There are other Provincial lotteries and scratch tickets that you can also play.
The 6/49 and Super 7 Rules state you can give away $10 000 BUT any amount over that gets taxed. Incidentally, there is no income tax for the first year..you get your moola up front.
Basically, it is a cash cow for the Government. I only play the 6/49 and only when the pot hits $5 million or more (which it usually does).
I echo the sentiment. When people ask if I got tickets (people get excited about large sums around here), I always tell them I buy once in a great while when I think about it - Which is to say, I never buy them.
Speaking of lottery's, I'm selling raffle tickets on 1/2 an angus beef, 1/2 a hog and a new freezer to put it all in, Or you can settle for a $1000.00. $5.00 a ticket and there's only 500 tickets. 1 in 500 chance isn't to bad, compared to the Lotto. a motorbike club is doing it and the extra money goes to St. Judes for the kid's.
In Michigan when they began the lottery they said the money would go to schools and road repair. What I've found out since then is that the state cut all the previous funding, and allowed the lottery capitol to fund the schools and repairs. We now have more schools closing down and the roads still need repair. I agree that it is a tax that most people don't realize, and the odds are unbelievable. I will play occasionally, but look at it as a form of entertainment and don't take it too seriously that I will win. I usually play instant tickets not the numbers. Nice to see you again Irish! Kevin
Hell, I have a better chance at winning at the casino...so thats where I go, plus there...you get free food, entertainment, and free drinks...the lottery just screws you with no extras!!

I hardly ever buy a ticket. I see to many people at the stores standing in line spending their whole paychecks thinking that this time will be the time they will win.
I play occasionally, but only a buck or two, but hey if by some strange miracle (cause that's what it would take) I win ya'll will be the first to know!
It works if you know what you're doing... it doesn't work if your boyfriends mother has to inspect your tickets and notice that you actually won before she threw them in the trash because you didn't.
