montecito: I'm angry over people parking in handicapped parking spaces who aren't handicapped.
I not not permantly handicapped but I do have a placard to hang on my mirror because I have difficulty walking until I get a knee replacement.
I was in a parking lot yesterday and as usual during the holiday season shoppers fill up the parking spaces. I saw a car pull into a handicapp space and as I was about to go past it the driver jumped out of her car and walked over to her friends. As I got next to her, I put my window down and said "Excuse me, do you have a handicapp placard". She said yes and I said "You don't look handicapped to me". Her friends shouted at me "She had foot surgery, mine your own business". My response was "I am minding my own business. I need the space and you don't look handicapped to me". They couldn't believe that I had the nerve to confront them on what this woman had done. She walked into the store without even a limp !!
I was at another store where there were 12 handicapp spaces and all of them were full. As I was waiting for a space, six people walked briskly to their cars.
There was another time after my first knee replacement that I went to the library where only three spaces were handicapped. A woman got out of her car and started walking to the door. I asked her how she is handicapped (takes nerve doesn't it) and she said "Oh, I had breast surgery". I asked her when and she said "Awhile ago". I told her I would like to have the parking space and she said "I won't be long" and she didn't move her car.
It infuriates me but I can't do anything about it.
There are three kinds of handicapp notifications. One is red which is for a short term need. One is blue which is what I have for longterm need and the third is for people who are permantly handicapped and they have a special license plate for that.
The problem is that people continue to use the placard even after they have healed, and that is wrong.
So I'm hoping that somebody else will tell me what's bugging them so I can think more about your bug then my own....
I had the same thing happen to me a few years back when I lived in an Apartment/Flat. My handicapped Mother was living with me at the time. A neighbor downstairs parked in the only 2 handicapped parking spaces available. She had a blue handicapped sticker on her windshield window and lived alone.
After a few weeks, I kept watching her as she jogged around the building every morning and ran up the apartment stairs to do her and other people’s laundry.
I talked to the local Police about this.
The Police told me that what she was doing was illegal, but they couldn’t do much about the crime. They said that she could only have a handicapped sticker if she lived with someone else that really was handicapped. Also told was that she had a Doctors permission for the sticker.
To make a long story short, my Mother fell on the way to my car one afternoon and was hospitalized for many days with a leg injury. We decided to move after that. Every once in a while I drive by and check the woman’s parking space. She is still parked there and nothing was ever done.

montecito: BB, they only give tickets out to people who don't have the placard. If someone has a placard and runs into the store, the cop can't give them a ticket. The problem needs to be policed but more and more people have the placards so it's a never-ending problem.
I got a notice in the mail asking if I needed the placard any longer. I responded yes I did and they sent me an actual license to have the placard. So when all these people that get the letter, who don't truly need the placard, they are going to say yes they need it cause they're too lazy to walk any distance.
Here in the UK we have to display the blue disabled badge in the car. This disabled certificate means that you can park anywhere providing you are not causing an obstruction.
Anyone parking in a disabled spot with no badge showing gets a fine,so people keep out of the disabled bays. To be registered disabled you have to pass a medical board, there are no half measures here.
Trouble is they then use the bays allocated for mothers with young children .

2nd bug
Why do I bother paying to have my hair and nails done, pay to heat the water for my shower and iron my clothes, get dressed smart to go to an event - only to find they let in people, who quite frankly, look like they have just crawled out from under the pier? Sadly, I should be used to this now, it's called 'Welcome to Ex-pat life in Spain'

The thing is, what year did she get the doctor's permission to have the placard. That's the part that's troubling. If I wasn't in pain when I walk I wouldn't be bugging about this, I would just take my cane and walk for the exercise but the pain is unbearable and when my knee is inflammed I lose my posture and then my back starts to hurt.
And I see it all the time in the parking lot at the supermarket. Driver gets out of the car and walks without a problem into the store. I used to try to glare them down but stopped that because I don't want to come out of the store and find that my car was keyed or the tires were slashed by Jan
I just have to deal with it until I get me a knew knee which I hope will be in the spring of next year.
Bill collectors and telemarketers are bugs. They will call you at the most inconvenient times…at dinner and in the evening when we are relaxing. Most times, they don’t even have the correct telephone number of the person they meant to call. Even an unlisted phone number doesn’t stop them.

At one time there was a person who had my phone number. Bill collectors call me all the time looking for her and it's not a simple phone call. They call and say if you are not --------------- press 1. I never get to the phone in time to press 1 so I have to call them back with the number that showed up on my Called ID. Then I'll hear a recording that says to the effect....if you just got a phone call from us press 2 which I do and then I usually get someone to explain the whole thing. I've had this phone number for 10 years. It seems she's been running a long time from bill collectors.

The Police told me that she conned a Doctor Monte. I don't know what year, but I would assume recent. I hope that your knee is much better before spring. I suffer with my leg injuries also. Now I live in my own house so there is no need for handicapped parking permits. I just drive to the front door, although I have steps to contend with.

We have to hang it on our windshield mirror. If it isn't there, we'll find a ticket on our windshield when we come back to the car. It happened to me one time. I forgot to hang the blue placard and when I came back to my car there was a ticket. I went to court and the fine was two hundred forty dollars. Even though I proved to the judge that I had the placard, he didn't make an exception.
We don't have to go through a medical board. All we need is a prescription from the doctor. Then I take that to my Motor Vehicle office to fill our the form and then it's sent to Trenton, our State Capital.
walledlakewizard: Good grief...I just got propositioned by a 28 yr old with a 36c and shaved...where dooo they come from? Now that really bugs me.
If that's all you are bugged about, you're a lucky man. If you keep getting mail like that you won't be lonely anymore.
By the way, I know that you were on CS before but there are many new people here that don't know you. Most of the time when people return they write a thread something like "I'm Back" or in some way introducing themself again and what their old name was. I know what your old name was but I don't have the right to post it. Some of the older members are still here and they might like to say hello to you.
I think you'll be surprised about how people will greet you. Right now they see you as a newbie but your really an reinvented newbie
