montemonte: Here's the question - If you knew for sure that by not using a microwave oven ever again that you could prolong your life for 10 years.

I just boiled water in the microwave to make coffee and while the microwave was on I thought to myself how much longer it would take to boil it on the stove.

This isn't about having proof that radiation causes cancer and to be fair, I have attached a link that speaks of the possibility of a hazard.

This is about how much we thrive on convenience every day, in our hectic lives, to get one more thing done.

So dear CS members... would you give up the convenience of a microwave oven.....a product that makes your life so much easier on a daily basis, if you knew for sure that if you NEVER used it again you would extend your life another 10 years...

I never had one ,and I`m not planing getting one either...

Boy67: Let me give you some information about your microwaves. I don't have one personally and i don't use them unless i have no choice. Cell phones work with microwaves. Put your cell phone in the microwave and don't start it, try to call your cell phone, if your cell phone rings then your microwave is leaking microwave rays and is exposing you to microwave rays, If i doesn't then is good to go. The microwave rays are not suppose to escape from the microwave oven.

Hmm, thats very interesting , thanks for the tip. I will try it.
I use a microwave quite a lot, never really thought about it. I use it to cook vegetables, and to heat up soup, etc. I never use it to boil water, I use a kettle for that.

For Everybody.

AN APPOINTMENT IN SAMARRA

There was a merchant in Baghad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, "Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture; now, lend me your horse and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra, and there Death will not find me".

The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and dug his spurs in its flanks aand as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, "Why did you make a threatening gesture to my servant when you saw him this morning?"

"That was not a threatening gesture", I said, "It was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Bagdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samarra".

Hi Monte,

I think the answer lies in looking at the habit of smokers when told they need to give up their addiction, or else death looms upon them. Very rarely does the smoker give up. I have seen an elderly woman with emphasema, wearing an oxygen mask with O2 tank next to her...And ciggy in one hand...I thought she was gonna blows us up!!!

I hope this doesn't come across as judgmental but it seems to me that we Americans live in the fast lane and that's why we use microwaves. If I'm correct, most you guys from other countries don't have and don't want a microwave oven.

I have to say, I think that's pretty cool.

The only time I use mine is to boil water for coffee and if I'm warming a leftover from last nights dinner.

Thanks guys....cheers

Last time I used a microwave either to cook or to heat my foods was in 2000.. so it's sooooooooooo long ago. I don't use it anymore.. not because it could prolong my life. I just don't have it.. grin

Welcome M!

Not only the microwave but all the electric appliances at home, office, etc.

What is recommended is to stay away certain distance from them (oops) while they are functioning and that info is on the net.
