montemonte: That's not true. My husband was an alcoholic and I stayed with him for seven years. And after our divorce we were best friends. He wasn't a bad man, just a man that had alcohol dependency. We had a daughter and it was important to me to keep him as sober as possible so that he could see her. I pulled him out of many bars and took care of him when he got sick. And when he died, I felt the loss very deeply. That was 37 years ago and I still put flowers on his grave.

My last was a friend for 2 years before we got together and I knew him as a kind, genuine man. After a couple of years the tarnish showed and he had no integrity and believed not telling me things I would not like to hear (such as financial irresponsibility) was ok.....not a man I would want as a friend let alone a partner.
Like you Jess, the real deep love of my life who brought me the deepest heartfelt joy, passed away. I am so sorry, Jess. I realise the great hole that leaves.
