I really try to remember that behind angry behavior lies a very hurt, wounded person. When I do that, it makes it much easier to understand, and gives me a moment to take a breath and to react kindly. It seems to help.

Yes, I know. It's still better to give the benefit of the doubt, at least at first, unless there is some really, really pressing reason not to. (I tend to be a "flight", rather than "fight" type, myself). Thanx for the post, and it is indeed valid.
