Thanks for the post Kizzy - very informative.

I think it is more a case of it being really really difficult to get Japanese citizenship which also comes with a full committment to Japan, its way of life, language, culture etc.

I suppose they have got the right idea, they don't just dish out their citizenship to all and sundry and rubber stamp it. If you want to live there you have to prove you are fully committed, language even translate your name?? thumbs up

It is their right to do that I guess? hug

just wondering what modern day china,s attitude towards muslims is?when i stayed there n the eighties, for twelve months, i stayed with shaolin monks in a temple in northern china, and inscriptions on the wall looked like a battle between islamic style warriors and the chinese, but wasnt allowed to ask or talk about it ,all i know isthey were driven out and never returned, they werent mongols so i take it they must have been islamic types like morrocans,or afghans,or could have even been northern indian.Dont think china would be happy with an islamic temple in shanghhai

In response to: Police arrest CBD protest organisers

By Mark Morri and Janet Fife-Yeomans
The Daily Telegraph September 22, 2012 12:00AM

TWO men alleged to have used texts and social media to organise a pro-Australia rally in the wake of last week's violent Muslim protest were yesterday arrested for inciting and promoting violence.

Good on these two men for the first part..trying to organise a pro-Australia rally. Why can't we have a rally for ALL Australians? We can have them for China, Tibet, school teachers, unionists who want a PM's pay, illegal immigrants but not if you want one to show you are Australian and it is your primary country, no matter where you originated from. Hell, they are even trying to ban ANZAC Day Marches.

But as far as trying to mimic the violence, good on the cops for stopping it.

My daughter worked in a very large firm in the city. Out of the whole floor she worked on, she was one of very few who had 1 parent born in Australia, and was 1 of few born in Australia. But everyone called themselves Australian.

I wasn't born in Australia, but I'm an Australian citizen. I love the place and consider it my home now although I was born in the UK.

When I lived in England there were countless Aussies working there, should they not have been allowed to go there to live and work? My niece (Australian born) is over there now working and planning on staying as long as she can, she's doing a job in recruitment that an English person could easily do, has she taken their job?

It used to amaze me the way people would complain about immigrants coming over to the UK without being able to speak the language etc yet countless Brits thought nothing of going to Spain, buying a house....talking louder to make themselves understood....

My friend is from the UK she has been here for 33 years and has become an Australian citizen.australia But she also goes on and on about how great and much better her birth country is blah blah blah talk to hand I have asked her WHY ARE YOU HEREher answer is well you have a better lifestyle here more to offer. I don't get it why if you are so homesick stay in a country that is second rated to you dunno confused I have said all this to her and don't get an honest answer that makes much sense, she is my friend but like a lot of imigrants takes Australia for granted JMO!

In some ways it the same like I am originally from N.S.W. and came to Western Australia 35 years ago and today I look at my self as a true West Aussie sandgroper & feel like I really belong this is my home and I just love it here. I feel like I have lived here all my life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the world, my friend cannot believe how boring I am. Each to their own I suppose dunno

My point is even though I am born and bred in Australia what is wrong with people who come to Australia or people who come to our different states to live "Aussies included in this debate too" and run our country down people can be so selfish! makes me real mad very mad

We all live in Australia and call Australia home hold Ya! head up high and shuddup! get on with ya life australia australia australia call Australia home australia yay

Hi Curly, wave

I was born overseas.. I came here as a baby. Australia is my country, and my home...
australia
But,

I did go visit where I was born, and found that like so many people, it was pretty, but the lifestyle of breathing constant carbon monoxide would have driven me crazy, and not having a garden, hanging washing out on lines that overlook roads, etc.. some of those things were positively non appealing.

I was born in a city - Trieste - Italy.. def in the city part. I guess I love cities, and I was in awe with the differences, but, no way do I want to go there to live..

As I travelled around Europe tho, I must say, my ideal life would be to have my aussie home, but travel and live in different parts of the world. but I can only dream... lol.

smitten

However, if I could chose to live somewhere, It'd be prolly in Monaco, right next to France, and to Italy, and not far from any city that I chose to go to...

Yeah Yeah, I want my cake and eat it too...grin

NotA, so much agree. I am not for everyone to have to speak English (of many variations) but that if you want to live in a ANY country, you should learn to speak their language and respect their customs and beliefs.

Seriously tho Curly,

no matter what, if we are honest, we do have it good here... the weather for one... even if we are having the coldest and wettest winter, it would never be that biting cold that goes on and on for months over the pond.

I did notice that lot overseas get the doldrums in their winter.. they just miss the sun, and as soon as their spring and sun comes out, they are all happy and smiling.. but in the winter, its sad sad faces.. rose

I have been an Aus Citizen for over forty years but was born in the UK...but Aus is my home.
I have been back to the UK three times over the years as my ex wanted to go' but I got so homesick for Aus after the first couple of weeks it wasent funny' in fact I was a whinging Aussie.
There are some wonderful things I love about the UK ...the people, the incredible countryside, and the lovely villages but this big wild rather isolated Country is so very speciel
and I believe the epitome of Australia is WA Wow.....if any of you have never been there try to go as that State is a law unto itself' they dont give a stuff what goes on anywhere else ...why should they as they have it all ,I will always treasure the 4 years I lived there in the hills of Glen Forest.
