Newlife08: Well the temps are rising, it's times to get the dresses, skirts, shorts and sarongs out.

And we know what that means ladies, shaving, tweezing, waxing, plucking, OUCH

Was so hot and sticky today I went out for lunch and wore one of my summer skirts for the first time this year.

Best part for me is I get to wear some nice heels I know micky is otherwise engaged these days but I am tottering my way to stilletos for the meet?

So what's the best thing about summer for you??
..the best thing about summer is the sun and.........bikinislaugh

Did my medical today and I failed crying I passed every test then came the lung / breathing test , turns out I only have very mild asthma but after entensive tests the real problem is my lungs.

I have what they call " Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease" in other words bronical due to lung damage to smoking. I have given up smoking 10 years ago but the damage is already there. Doctor says I have the lungs of a 90 year old. sigh On top of that the doctors have been precribing me with wrong medication all these years saying it is asthma. I am now going on new medication for my lungs and it is def out of the question I will never be able to dive. sad It was so hard to hold back the tears welling up to the fact my dream has been crushed blues

Anyhow My daughter and her partner have passed their test and we went to the diving school to sort their dive out and what can I do as my course is fully paid for. Doctor said I can snorkle so they are transfering my dive course to a snorkling course. It should cover my gear I need to hire and also on the last day of everyones scuba dive course on the Island of Rottness I can go with them on the boat and snorkle around the inlet of the Island. Looking into this now so some positive out of the negative. I am glad at the end of the day I went for a medical as some good has come out of this experience. On to the next adventure. thumbs up grin

Just shows peeps smoking is bad very bad indeed [/color]

Mate of mine did his dive course in Port Moresby. Their doctors are not so as subjective as ours. More they look at what you intend to do, not the limit for the wanabe professional diver.

And sorry to hear that they have limited what you can do. Although the coral reefs up north of WA are supposed to be as spectacular as the Great Barrier Reef which so many enjoy just snorkeling.

Jeez Curly, I bet you are beyond belief...

But on a positive note... I think its much nicer to snorkel than to dive... you can still get yourself down about 12-15 feet and the freedom is exhilirating without all that stuff as extra.. and you know , if I were you... I'd be asking about 'hookas' because you can still mess about on the surface or go down about 15 feet and stop at that depth... If the reef you are on is pretty, you can see it from the surface and also you dont need to be in the real deep..

And the reason that I would personally not go down any further than 15 feet, is coz you'll find the pressure on your ears too much... seriously, I think you will absolutely enjoy the snorkling much better.. bouquet

Thanks wash at the dive shop the girl said to me at my local leisure centre they have snorkle classes and about 25 people go out snorkling each weekend around the reefs so on a brighter note it will be a great hobby I'd say so quiet looking forward to it. Have to wait a few weeks before I start to make sure medication is working and clearing my lungs. Plus have to wait for diving instructor to get in touch for the snorkle course.

I did a simple dive thing out on the Barrier Reef many years ago. I am a bit claustrophbic so it was a big challenge for me. Enjoyed being able to just stay down there without having to come up to breathe every couple of minutes (or less) but......

I do love getting and cooking abalone, although not having done it for the last 10 years, not sure if I could manage it these days. But even just skimming across the surface and being able to dive down to have a glimpse of the reefs is great. And most of the good stuff is near the surface. Just that deeper has so many more things to offer. More interesting formations, a few wrecks, a few White Pointers (although as Lookin would say "plenty on the beach").rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing banana cheering applause dancing

I agree that stuff to look at is often not in the deep, but up close to the surface, therefore, I am sure that Curly will enjoy it...

and I have had the time of my life just snorkling about in really shallow water on a reef, just looking at seahorses and shells.. dont need to go down deep to see all sorts of interesting things..

thumbs up

Merri, the worst part about your neck of the woods is that there is not much unless you go down deep. With all the nasties to watch for. Up around the warmer climates, they have more appropriate (mouthfull)things to feed on and leave the bigger things alone.

It's been over 30 years since I have snorkled looking foward to it.
I did have fun.

I should have realized there was a problem as last summer I couldn't do the full lap of the olympic pool at the leisure center where's I could easily do two laps a year before that and 4 laps 2 years prior to that , thinking it's just me getting older so makes sense now regarding my lungs.
