curly28: How scary it must be to live in your country when you feel you need to be armed to walk around to feel safe
I am former military.......outed in 86.......I have not carried a weapon since. I have taught and coached at schools. Driven courier. Lived a life that was interesting and fun. Been to just all 50 states.......
When a sherriff walks into a restraunt with gloc on his side, I feel a lot more safer than when he was not there.

So do I. Cops have bad attitudes sometimes but when they are around, I don't have to hold my breath anymore because I feel confident that they are in control.
joyaepace: So, what do you suggest to do with your legitimate corrupt government? I see you are not reading carefully and don't understand that what I said about tyranny is not a judgment but an observation that according to a definition of the tyranny the US is not a tyranny. But my own opinion unfortunately is that it is corrupt and not representing interests of the people as it should. And if the Republicans came to power they would be even worse.
Joy, I perceived the post I made about tyranny (which weren't my words) to mean that when we, the public os afraid that the government will take up arms against us, and to prevent that we take up arms against them (the government) we are the ones who are then comitting tyranny.

We are straying from the thread if continuing debating on what may be legit or not. Guns are allowed in the US for one recognized primary reason, which is to enable the citizens to stand up to a corrupt government. People in Too many other countries allowed dictators to take over. We choose to be vigilant and prepared here instead. Guns are not harming America but Obama care is going to be the straw to break the camels back here... Our economy is unsustainable even if wasn't being implemented.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!”

This new gun law applies to everyone! Something you may not be aware of is that the maximum of 10 bullets per magazine is a problem for law enforcement. The new gun law should have excepted law enforcement officers....Secret Service, CIA, FBI, local police from the magazine maximum. It can't be assumed that they are the exception so from what I'm hearing this problem will be taken care of. So already an addendum has to be written to a law that is only days old.
Barney they gave a single bullet too.....and they were still concerned for his safety.
But since I know the chief of police and the head sherrif of our county personally and on first name basis....I know that they have trained their men to use the weapon responsibly. There is lot more to become a law officer than just back ground checks in the US.
It starts with academy training of months. Then a year on probation. Then periodic follow up training and qualifying with the weapon. Under all kinds of shooting situations. Including sitting at a crouded restaurant when a armed robber walks in.
I trained men in the military handle most the infantry weapons in our military....including assault rifles. A lot of those men can kill you just easily with their bare hands. They don't need a weapon to be leathal.
The issue is this. It is the determined motivation of the person. Is he/she there to protect and serve society. Or is he/she there to harm society.
People like Loughner, Lanza and Holmes have made a determination decision to harm society. But the vast majority of gun owners in the United States and police and military have have choosen to protect and serve soceity.
montemonte: So I guess I understood the original explanation of tyranny correctly.
I don't know. If the government creates fear in the people, then their is tyranny in government is another way to say it, or other Variations:
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." "Does the government fear us? Or do we fear the government? When the people fear the government, tyranny has found victory. The federal government is our servant, not our master!" “When the people fear the government, that's tyranny; when the government fears the people, that's freedom.”

Tom, what do think they will do about what I said in post 378.

Thanks! No, I did not know this new gun law affects law enforcement officers too.

Wouldn't you think they would have thought about law enforcement being affected by a limit of 10 bullets in a magazine? It can't be intentional....has to be an oversight.

Yes, I got it. A good example would be the tyranny of the Bolsheviks who 'liberated' Russia in 1917 from the tzar. The absolute power of the tzar was of course oppressive, but was mild when compared with the ensuing Bolshevik terror. Bolsheviks said they were fighting for the rights of the majority of people, but ended tyrannizing everyone, were cruel regime.
