Blizzard14u: Well they haven’t kicked my mum out as yet? Or my step dad, and they are both on the Aussie pensions and their both Poms! Just tell them you are going to stay! And if they say you cant you will call the media! Remember this is an election year and they cant handle the bad publicity? Can you imagine the public outcry? Off them kicking out a hard working woman that has paid her taxes to give her place to some freeloader that will go straight on welfare for life and bring all their old relatives over, I would rather they let people in on merit who can speak read and write English, than the people we are getting!

There is a factory in Coogee where I used to drop the recycle rubbish, 12 guys put their hands up for training on a forklift? Work safe said NO! as to get a forklift licence you have too be able to read and write English! The company cant get Aussies to work for them? As the wages are too low? So basically the people who do work here are getting exploited because they don’t understand English!

and just to add my tuppence worth... I was at a party last weekend, and one Aussie ( came over as a ten pound pom) gets a pension from the UK.. even tho she was only 17 when she came... Cant get pension here, as she is self retiree..

Wow hey... does that make sense??confused

Bloody Pommes. Want to come out here and enjoy all the bloody good things here in God's Own Country and whinge about how good Mother England is (but would not go back). "Oh, I worked in England and they can give me the pension I earnt. I worked in Aust and they can also give me a pension." Ex #1 was a Pomme but not one of the whinging ones like her parents (yeah, I can say something nice about her). Not like her parents.

They were the 10 quid emmigrants. Job in Whyalla working with the BHP iron ore, etc. Hated the red dust and the continual heat. Ex's mother's brother was high up in ACI Pilkerton and arranged a job in Sydney in the sweatshop. His background was a train-shunter in England.

As he could speak English in the hot labour-intensity glass manufacturering workplace, he did rise to being a foreman quickly. With all the breakdowns, he did manage to devise a method of improving the whole system. It eventually reduced there costs to 30% of what they were doing and he rose to the top and ended up 2IC until they wanted to get cheaper staff to do what he had done.

A mate from Phillipines who I knew from playing chess came to Aust for a better life. We played chess and that was all I cared about him and the others. My relaxation. My enjoyment. He ended up working with me under some Govt program. I got to know more about him.

He had been a project engineer on oil refineries in the Middle East setting up many refineries. Came to Aust and could not get a job while his nursing wife could. Got a job on a production line for mushroom canning. It broke down and he pointed out what was wrong and they fixed it. Immediately the foreman. Several months later and he was the Mechanical Engineer for the whole plant.

No because my step dad worked 15 years in England before coming here. When he retired a few years ago now, I had too do all the paper work to get his Aussie pension, I sent his arrival notice documents as well as his birth certificate by registered mail to England to establish if he was to get an Aussie or English pension, long story but British post lost the mail? That did not make me happy? So I sent off Emails to every bloody politician I could and I managed too get the step dad a full Aussie pension,

Apparently he was entitled to an English pension but I tolled them to shove it as the Aussie pension is worth more! He had worked here most off his life, and both the olds vote! They are just not Aussies, on a piece off paper!

Although immigration change their rules all the time! We also change the immigration minister after each election? As they need votes! Too keep their jobs?

The answer to public servants is to complain, but start at the top as the person who answers the phone is just doing what they are tolled, it’s the person at the top who gets the axe if they don’t fix the problem,

Part of a bi-partisan agreement between UK & Aust. For too many years there was a lot of double-dipping with pensions between the countries. Result was that some multi-country pensioners where receiving more in pension than wage earners. I think it was Mr Keating who saw an end to that. So it all depends on who you really have as your allegiance country.

"Do you want to be an Aussie and receive the benefits we have to offer?" "No, I am a Martian and I will never be anything else!"

Although the overall affect has taken quite a few years for the impact to be realised. Probably why the Greek economy has failed.

Well my olds sold their house in Manchester before immigrating with four kids and arrived in Australia in 1964 five months before I was born, so I travelled fist class if you think about it?

Dad was a mechanic heavy stuff his fist job working for bells over here, after mum had me! She went back to work at the Airport as a stewardess in the arrivals lounge for first class passengers, rock stars politicians rich people!

So they would be the 20 thousand plus pound Poms! With a few brains in their heads! It still took a few years before they could take out a loan to buy their first home? Even though their first home cost 24 thousand pounds?

My dad died 8 years ago but my Mum is still the most politically incorrect person I have ever known if she was not my mother I would not visit, when the five of us once kids get together on her birthday normally, we all say your mother said! Trying to avoid the fact that she is our mother too?

But the scary part from this story is that there are four other adults out there just like me!

NOT all poms came here on the cheap, complain and get pensions from both countries! It really frustrates me when people make sweeping statements of ANY description.

My parents emmigrated here after the war...my father was a Captain in the Merchant navy and had taken troups around the world in WW11. My mother (an only child) arrived with a small child, and knew no-one. They came on a 2 year contract with promise of a return home. The company was taken over and they were stranded.

They did NOT whinge. Dad got on with it and did any job he could find...even a milk run where he had to catch a horse each morning...he was never good with horses!

He then joined the army where he rose to the rank of colonel. He did two tours of Vietnam and was one of the men who organised bringing the Aussie troops home.

They raised 9 children here and paid their way. Dad received a military pension and now he has gone, Mum is a self-funded retiree. She cannot even get a medical card for her medication.

Please do NOT say poms whinge and do not contribute and just sit and get two pensions. My parents paid tax all their lives and my father fought for this country and organised demobbing of troops. They did their bit!

End of rant! professor

Hi Wash, so it was Keathing you reckon...

but most Italians here get both pensions.. Aussie and Italian pensions.. they do alright..

Not my parents tho... they are self retirees.. and dont get any pensions.

But just thinking about the lady that I was talking to... who told me she gets the UK pension and is a self retireehere in Aus... even she said it wasn't quite right... but I suppose if they send her a pension.. she'll have it..

No wonder UK is losing the plot...

sigh

Hey ... heck no... I'd love to get dual residency and live in both sides of the world...

Here for autumn, there for summer and spring..

I have not worked out how to do that yet... I wish they would just open all the doors and let us in... sigh
