Merriweather: Hey ... heck no... I'd love to get dual residency and live in both sides of the world...

Here for autumn, there for summer and spring..

I have not worked out how to do that yet... I wish they would just open all the doors and let us in...
Mmmm the clock sure is ticking! So when will you find out how to do that? Let us know when you do.

pisceslady7: NOT all poms came here on the cheap, complain and get pensions from both countries! It really frustrates me when people make sweeping statements of ANY description.

My parents emmigrated here after the war...my father was a Captain in the Merchant navy and had taken troups around the world in WW11. My mother (an only child) arrived with a small child, and knew no-one. They came on a 2 year contract with promise of a return home. The company was taken over and they were stranded.

They did NOT whinge. Dad got on with it and did any job he could find...even a milk run where he had to catch a horse each morning...he was never good with horses!

He then joined the army where he rose to the rank of colonel. He did two tours of Vietnam and was one of the men who organised bringing the Aussie troops home.

They raised 9 children here and paid their way. Dad received a military pension and now he has gone, Mum is a self-funded retiree. She cannot even get a medical card for her medication.

Please do NOT say poms whinge and do not contribute and just sit and get two pensions. My parents paid tax all their lives and my father fought for this country and organised demobbing of troops. They did their bit! End of rant!

Hi pisces how's things? I'm a returned serviceman having done 17 years in the Army, Because your Dad served in the Army and on active service your Mum should be entitled to a pension from the Department of Veterans affairs check their web site and in particular look at the DVA factsheet DP60, Your Dad has qualifying service as he served in South Vietnam, it' worth giving them a ring, if you don't ask they can't help. Hope this helps a bit.thumbs up wine Oh and thanks for your Dads servicebeer

Oh believe me I done my homework...
But why is it so hard to understand I rather stay here than go back when I reached my Pension age?
I do know I could get my Aussie pension in Germany, but I dont want to go back..thats all there is to it moping

Allegria46: yes i did......there is another snag, you cant bring more than 10.000$ into the country... as a business owner you have to put down 40.000$ straight up. And than you have to have a Buisness..wich is way to risky.....because if that fails you have to go aswell within 28 days... Like me on a 457 Visa. ( at least for the first 2 years)

and about that Love thing...see above...lol

i wasn't really serious about the love thing, but i once received a phone call out of the blue from the immigration department suggesting a person i was discussing migration with and i should contact there department and ten days before her tourist visa expired and explain how we had fallen in love..

A couple i met in Hervey Bay from the UK who used immigration lawyer had worries like you have, they had to show there business ran a profit within three years or would be kicked out.

It all seems wrong.
A German guy and his family that i knew disappeared into the wood work, until he needed an operation, he borrowed someones medicare card and they took out one of his kidneys...

The country is currently been run by POME, neither Gillard or Abbot were born in Australia and when you listen to the way they treat others wanting to come here, they make most descent people i know sick

I could probably come up with a couple likely country lads you might like to scrutinise, but only if you promise not to wear them out to quickly laugh

Might not be a good idea to leave things to the last minute, you'd probably be better to capitalize on you efforts up there before it got to close. Placing trust in the the public service to do the right thing, for folks in the bush died out a long time ago
