actually wine has always been referred to as "the drink of the Gods" so at least my answer was based on something.. I've read a bit of the bible, however!!!! Don't recall reading anything about Noah inventing wine and getting "pissed"!!!!! That, dear, was also a "stupid answer"

"Strabo wrote that Burebista was able to obtain the complete obedience of his tribe with the help of Decaeneus, a wizard and a diviner who learned his craft in Egypt. The people's obedience to Burebista was so complete, that they were even persuaded to cut their vines and give up drinking wine. Jordanes further claims that the high priest held "almost royal powers" and taught the "Goths" a code of laws called the "belagines laws", but also ethics, philosophy and sciences, including physics and astronomy."
Yes, it is derived from a Greek word, oenus I believe.
The Romans, who celebrated wine, credited the Greeks with it, and the Greeks of classical antiquity were happy to take credit. But there's evidence the Greeks themselves acquired it from elsewhere, likely Anatolia or Cyprus or the Levant. Bacchus, the Greek god of wine, was considered a relative newcomer to the pantheon, and his most celebrated mythological adventures involved seafaring from the east. That points to acquisition from somewhere eastward.

smal corection Bacchus was the Roman god of agriculture and wine, similar to the Greek Dionysus"
"The drink of god" the alcohol. Was a drug used to prepare the warriors for a fight, and to support the idea of death. be agresive, etc... Each trib, from Africa, Asia, or Amazonia, had such drinks.
You can imagine that rusian solders, in the 2nd world war, recieved the Vodka always before a fight.
That for, the ancient samans or priest have prepared it.
Later became a way of life. So today we are druged the whole day Why are we dringing alcohol so often? Because we are gods? Or because we are very scared?

Alcohol (not necessarily wine) goes way way back, and its mind-altering properties likely had somewhat to do with worship, originally.
I've read that beer, in fact, is the world's oldest manufactury (meaning, produced in excess for trade, beyond one's own consumption). This, attributed to the Beaker People of prehistoric Spain.
