I don't know about elsewhere, but today, in the USA, we recognize those who have fallen and died for us. Men and women of every nation have made that ultimate sacrifice and are buried somewhere without most other people ever giving their honorable deed a second thought.
We might argue the morals of war but these dead soldiers didn't fight for power or fame, for wealth or gain. Most of them fought because they knew they must and they died fighting. Such is the heart of a brave soldier. They paid the price that a soldier has to pay for our freedom.
I recognize their service today with the rest of my nation and I am grateful to them. This thread is intended to be one humble effort to sincerely acknowledge their sacrifice(s).

My mum said they were thrilled to bits when the American soldiers arrived and for that I'll join the remembrance. Brave men, indeed, whether they fell there, or not.

But damn, if that isn't one of the levers.
emotions sometimes are based in distress …. but got your point...
lost quite a few friends in wars (lived one), and it is a subject that takes us nowhere...

Yes, my mother had her formative years in war time Germany.
By leverage, I meant that so many soldiers believe in what they're doing because they believe they are rescuing and peace keeping. I think that's to get them to do the government's dirty work.
I'm torn between the enormous respect I have for the brave who relieved so many from their oppression, fear and starvation and the agony of knowing that war is game played by the powerful and smug, paid for with human bets.

Jac, this is a Memorial thread for our brave men and women who have fallen in the time of war.
Once a year we someone from the America writes this thread.
And once a year I ask that you at least try to not turn it into a war bashing thread with your political beliefs.

Ah, I remembered something about your mother correctly. I'm surprised that I can still remember some days.
True, someone, or a maybe a select few really benefit and gain from war. However, I believe it's not the one's on the front line or anyone else doing the real fighting who do, that we recognize here today. Thanks again..
Tomcats2: To all the Americans who lost their lives my prayers are with their families. We rember our war dead on The 1th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month

Although Jac does not need anyone to defend her, I am sorry, but i cannot agree with you !!
democracy is what US stands for, and accepting ideas is what I have learn in/with US. So, if a post it is not offensive, not degrading to the memories of those who went to a war, I believe we should accept anyone opinion.
i´ve been in the army, and "lived" a war.... and i am against wars !!
That's the point. You weren't grieving. In your first post I appreciated your comment that you joined in the thread because your mother was thankful that the Americans came.
But then, as usual, you have to hijack the thread to change the subject hoping it will turn into attacking our government. You can attack our government all you want but please save it for another thread....one that isn't a memorial thread to our dead military personnel.
If you attack our government, as you did, then you are attacking our military and in this case, the very men and women who have died with honor.
You, of all people, who has a psychology background should understand why this thread was written.
