Especially at this time of the year everywhere one goes/shops you are asked to "give" to a cause...

Do you have a charitable cause you give to?...and how did you decide on that one?....or do you just give to any/every one...

And what do you think of charitable causes???

I give but not monetarily.

For example, a family lost their home to fire and the red cross was asking for donations of clothing. I cleaned out my closet and donated a respectable amount of really nice clothes in one of the sizes they asked for.

Boyscouts collect canned foods for their food drive each holiday and I give of my time when at all possible.

tis the season, currently I'm volunteering at a hospital, and working with salvation army.

to be frank, the hospital thing...I have ulterior motives(emplyment).

but it does give me a real deep happy feeling, i leave there seeing things in a different light so to speak...i've been asked to "go with" to another facility... I hope I have the time and opportunity to do so.

I have a hard time having good thoughts about certain charities that ask for donations at grocery checkouts.

When the cashier asks me if I'd like to donate a dollar to Special Olympics or United Cerebral Palsy, I politely say no.

My son loves the once a year Special Olympic event here, but it is funded by local schools and very limited. The money comes from a bottle redemption drive.

I tried to locate services provided by UPC when my son was disagnosed. I used their website to inquire. They directed me to a local office; I went to the office and it was closed.

I think direct charitable donations have the best chance of reaching someone who needs help.

sometimes actually geting out and phyiscally offering your talents is so much more needed. giving your time.

its truly a sad dilemma when the term "all proceeds" includes operating cost, and advertising costs, and personnel costs.
I read somewhere that most cash donations only if you're lucky 30 to 40% actually goes to those it was intended for... but such is nature of the beast I reckon...

What has always bothered me is that people open their wallets and give their time and attention to the needy, but only at Xmas. The needy remain needy all year round. Paws

By paying my tithing through church ( our church then donates to many worth while organizations ) I am giving money.

I also like to give things ( clothing and household items ) to local charity organizations.

There is a really good youth program at a shelter here that allows you to volunteer time helping young people. ( learn to read ect....)

I also enjoy singing with others in a small group for retirement/senior homes.
