Communication is the first step and hopefully effective.
It is always good to have an open line of communication between nations. I can just imagine what the topics of conversation were about?, and did both leaders speak through interpretors.....

Exactly, that's what I was implying. Interpreters I imagine would have been necessary.

Thats a Good Step for both countries as well as for world
I'm glad they are talking with the West. Peaceful change in Iran will need to come from the Iranian people, hopefully led by those old enough to remember both the modern freedoms they once enjoyed and yet not forget the fear that they lived under while ruled by the Shah; and the religious tyrants that rule them now. If by permitting open dialogue between average Iranian citizens and peaceful democracies around the world, (especially by easing restrictions regarding internet access) helps them in juxtaposing, I think it's great!
Few accused Nixon of fomenting Communism when he opened a dialogue and then later visited China!
It's going to take a lot more than talk. It will be necessary to analyze the sincerity of the controlling powers in Iran above Rouhani. Also, the Revolutionary Guards are not too happy about it. Anyway, good start and lets see where it will lead.
He's is a pragmatic man: they WANT to be a power in the region and they can't do it with leaders who deny the holocaust ever happened or ignore the myriad of satellite dishes that pepper their skyline rooftops every evening! Nor with a crippled economy due to international sanctions and a knowledgeable populace who know the 21st century is forging ahead!
IMHO Allowing international nuclear inspectors in is the only way forward. Either they put away their desire for nuclear weapons and join the world community or wallow away for years to come in self destructive religious ideology.

Iranian people and Americans Never have been enemy with each other. only both government had a problem and now we see that they are making friends.this is win win result for both sides as Abraham Lincoln saying Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?
