Catibrae: A typical recurve bow can "loose" an arrow at over 100mph, a compound bow is much faster and with the right arrows they certain can kill an animal over the size of a rabbit.
There is a place in spain where you can kill a wild boar only with a bow...they charge 150 euro per day. A colleague went and got his boar and has the tusk and pictures to prove it.

Would it be one of those places with fences around it with fences around it so the animal can never escape?

tinyfangs: That would be grand thank you heaps

Forest is starting right behind my property, so I'd have space to fire them arrows about and feel like Robin Hood and while usually not keen on the idea on men in tights - I in tights with a bow is a different matter

Catibrae: Using a bow has much more skill to it...after all in millennia gone by, they had nothing else to use except for a spear or a bow...I wonder how the human race survived....

Some bow's that were brought up on the "Mary Rose" wreck off the coast of Cornwall, were tested to destruction....You would have to been able to pull 170Lbs to draw the bow (pull the string back) wow what muscles these guys had....Similar was found in a bog in Germany. What does that say about the men of today who cant pull a woman let along a bow string...rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

The distance "shot" depends on the poundage of the bow and the elevation of the arrow...not discounting wind conditions...wind behind would be a bonus. Some say a distance of a quarter mile or just over can be achieved.ireland

Good luck at the competition!!! applause applause applause
I am useless at competing for a whole array of reasons, but hope you will have heaps of fun grin hug grin

and thank you so much, I shall definitely try those numbers and look into it as I always wanted to learn that, even though I hope I will never have to shoot anything that can feel pain, still a skill worse knowing, me thinks heart beating

Its called field archery...they use life sized rubber animals, which is put into simulated hunting condition and distances...its good fun. I hope to see you there one day.

If one is close enough to where I am and you are there, I'd LOVE to come and watch, although I'd prefer they'd use geometric shapes or forms as targets, as I don't like forms nor geometry giggle giggle giggle
