tinyfangs: If one is close enough to where I am and you are there, I'd LOVE to come and watch, although I'd prefer they'd use geometric shapes or forms as targets, as I don't like forms nor geometry
Competitions are held all over the country and usually on sundays...tomorrow is at Mayo and next sunday is Endenderry. Unfortunatly you cant watch unless you have insurance (as well all have) and are a member of a club.

Personally, will only hunt if a new rabbit hat and hare scarf is absolutely essential, and the old deer head hanging above the fire place is looking a bit tatty.Other than this hunting is cruel and barbaricscold

Understand traditional tribes still existing in the world today hunting as a means for food but not sure how valid it is as a sport for "civilised" people of today.

Catibrae: No it wasnt...WILD BOAR....hmmmm I guess that would have been a hint....

Not really, there are plenty of places you can go to shoot wild animals that aren't exactly wild.

benni2: fox's are vermin

There are better ways at killing and culling vermin than chasing them with a pack of dogs and letting the dogs rip them apart for "sport". Why not just let professionals cull them by shooting them with high powered rifles. The animal still end up dead but they are not tortured before their death.

I don't see the problem with certain types of hunting if one is going to eat what has been hunted but to dig badgers out of a hole and set dogs on to it and watch is totaly fuc$%^$%^$ up.

I love foxes and my heart breaks when I see them run over.....am amazed there are any left still crying

Killing for sport and torturing and animal first is disgusting!
It is like watching a cat with its prey.....as humans (and not animals) we should be above this level of inflicting pain on other creatures!

sofarsogood74: I agree. If people want to go out on horses and jump ditches and hedges and walls then fair play to them. But I don't see why they need to be chasing a fox with a pack of dogs to enjoy it.

I understand certain animals cause havoc to farmers so their population must be kept at a certain level but I will never understand torturing animals before killing them and calling it sport!
I don't realy buy the fox thing causing havoc, if theres no food they move on, they used to say that about the magpie birds, an area can only supply a certain amount of food for a certain amount of animals.

They take lambs and fowl from farms and can also take newly born calfs. Magpies actually take the eyes from new born lambs. So they can be a problem if there is a large population in an area. I have no problem with farmers shooting them as it is a quick death. But hunting them until they collapse with exhaustion and then letting a pack of dogs rip them apart is disgusting.

I had no idea a fox was strong enough to take and kill anything as big as a lamb or calf????

There is a fox near where I live who has been blamed on killing pet cats (actually I think he got one of mine that I never found out what happened to him) but not convinced it could kill a lamb or calf!

sofarsogood74: Do you know how big lambs or clafs are when they are born? They are small, soft, slow and weak with parents that cant defend them. Easy to kill and drag away for any fox.
This is getting better, keep em coming.
