sometimes, the best time to find a great person to be with in your life is when you are not looking sooo hard

Yep! Especially if you know who you're looking for and if they want what you want. Best to not have high expectations. If you can find one in RL or a community like this, then it comes down to whether or not they want to be approached. A lot of stuff has to go right.

I doubt that you are much different than the multitude of singles that seem to remain single here. At least I used to have some one that was interested in me from time to time, but now I don't even have someone to talk to like I used to. It kinda sucks in a big way. Especially during the holidays or when I think of something funny and I have no one to share it with. I think if you find or they find you then keep it special....but don't let yourself get put in the backseat either... that is no fun. But if a lovely lady gives you the signal then go for it. It depends on what you want.
It is easy to find someone to go to bed with, but hard to find someone you want to wake up with.
If you can't get any contacts at all, then I would think about a different approach.
