How much one should pay for it?

I hear that a UK university degree comes at a 5 digit figure per annum?!!! While I know a French one at the Sourbone of Paris a 3 digit one - E300-E470.

The best way to go, is to search for community colleges that have a strong, proven record of placing pre-graduates or graduates into an apprenticeship, hands on employment training while in school... More and more, the name of a colleges is less important, but having practical, mainstream knowledge in the chosen field is mandatory. Here in America, some corporations have taken it on themselves to provide departments of training and education at the work place to form and mold the kind of employee that is needed.

University education is officially free in Ireland for EU citizens. There are registration fees etc though.

Courses with work placement/practical experience can be the most beneficial.

It's not just course fees, you also need to take accommodation, food and books into consideration. My son is studying to become a PE teacher. 9000 uk pounds for the course. Plus 10000 for accommodation etc per year!!

Obstinance_Works: Nothing at all... if you're very bright and hardworking.

I consider myself lucky because I left school and got a job at 16 and it was my employer that financed my higher education. But I know of many who are up to their eyeballs in debts all for a diploma in sports science from Manchester Ring Road University that's most probably been printed on a cracker.

In Britain they should bulldoze the worst performing two-thirds of universities in order to make higher education free for those who are intelligent enough to warrant it.

why should education only be free to the intelligent and who is going to decide who is intelligent and who isn't, and I suppose in your opinion women don't qualify either

I suspect your employer did not finance university education for you.

I do believe that a university education should be affordable to all but sadly it is not.

great system.
when i was in ohio, my neighbor was doing this for his architecture degree at the university of cincinnati. i also had a student in one of my fine art classes that was doing something similar. their employer would pay for one quarter, then student would work a quarter, and the student was required to maintain a certain course standing. takes twice as long to get degree but one is working the whole time and employer paid for tuition and also paid student during that quarter when they were working for the company... so graduates without the enormous debt, and with plenty of training.
thumbs up

Well folks, my point is how one can pay in UK over 10,000 pounds every year for 4 to 6 years simply on education fees?????

CuddlingSoul: Scholarships, or work for the University while attending as a student, or only signup for a quarter at a time and pay as one goes per-quarter. Quarter on quarter off to save for college.

Well, what about taking a bank loan so to finish 2x faster?
cheers

CuddlingSoul: Ouch, be carful. Try to make sure that the income will be there in the future to pay the loan. A few years ago, America was in an economic housing bubble that collapsed. Some economic experts are how saying that the next economic collapse in the US, will be due to outstanding/unpaid college loans... If this is possible for you, the Armed forces (Government military) is about the very best way to go for education.

Ya, CS rolling on the floor laughing

I'm afraid U are very right!
This is a unfair and quite twisted a market like the housing one. And the health care SERVICES one. How one can survive in such a hell I really cannot imagine, except for opting for the now and then hell of the military men.

Only taking one quarter at a time, and paying for only one quarter at a time seems to be the most realistic approach to education these days, as more and more students are discovering that they don't have what it takes to finish. More than a few dropout and are left with student loan debt.

In my undergraduate years it never ceased to amaze me of the low level of intelligence of people going for their Bsc in psychology and associated subjects. The majority of which were middle class females who intended it as a career stop as much as they intended to be night club bouncers.
It was without a doubt a club for middle and upper class idiots to obtain some paper qualifications,
Th students loan fiasco was a joke, many students defaulting after a generous waiting period, and the Scottish based loan company not organised to chase them up adequately. This become a bit of a joke in the courts with most default notices thrown out.

The Msc and Phd levels were very different, based on meritocracy.

Yes having a debt for a education of some $50,000 or more like $260,000 for a doctor's one or quite same amount for a wooden house that will totally decay in the last day of one' final 360-th installment is not really a happy/freeing experience. It's rather like the opposite - unhappy enslaving for life.

O-ooooooooooph!

Chile...

Everybody has to pay. Unless you get some scholarship from goverment and that only will happen if you have excelent grades -that was my case- that covers some of the fees.

But an egineering degree...takes five years -hell yeah- and around... USD 7,000 - a year- + books , food , accommodation , etc etc

Ouch.

Oh, that much in Wienn/EU? French engineering education is much less 5xE470=2,350 for all 5 years fees. Or at most 10xE470?
