bodleing2: Acceptance of what is. As soon as you allow total acceptance to your situation, stop resisting and allow things to be as they are, a new form of consciousness takes over. This frees you from becoming stuck in repetitive negative thought patterns and allows new ways of thinking. With the right support, most people will benefit from acceptance and surrender...much more so than resorting to mind numbing medication that does not address the cause, just suppress the symptoms.
Like I said, not easy, but depression is not an easy illness to deal with.

I like you G so will resist typing my first response to that.

It does sound more like opting out to me.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I would like to add that intense anxiety is a common doorway to depression. Anxiety can be triggered by feelings of being overwhelmed, traumatic experiences, unresolved or buried memories, loss, the list can go on.

But how can things be anything other than what they are?

You look wonderful in your new pic Glat. thumbs up

We can't change circumstances, but maybe with time and practice and determination, we can learn tools to help us from sliding into the dark hole.

Thank you.

And yes I agree, however to try discredit the help medication can be to people living with depression is irresponsible IMO.

Sometime we feel uneasy with new ways of looking at things, but new ways can soon become taken for granted. The science of the mind is moving on fast right now, a new understanding and awareness is fast growing. Depression in the world will soon become an illness of the past, of that I'm sure.

It can be interesting to explore new things and have spent years living with this illness and learning what works for me. A lot of what you write seems incomplete to me, like half sentences.

I don't knock medication. I have a dear friend who is bi-polar schizophrenic and without her meds, she cannot function.

A previous boyfriend was bi-polar. It cycled every 2 to 4 weeks. I wish he had explored options instead of accepting it.

They can't, so why resist them? Why want to be something you're not, why want to be somewhere you're not? Why do you want something to be other than it is? This is the cause of suffering, resistance to what is.
This is not to suggest that you give in to a situation if it's bad, but first accept totally the situation and if you can, change it. But if nothing can be done, accept it fully, then see what happens.

I spent a number of years exploring options to find what worked for me and was 8 years without a major episode until I became physically ill, the combination of that and all the stress and worries it entailed plus cancer meds interfering with my regular meds sent me into a really bad bout and I was in hospital for 12 weeks to get back on the right track again.

Bi-polar schizophrenic is quite a different condition from depression. Most cases of depression can be treated with the right support and guidance, bi-polar needs medication to keep it under control.

Am not resisting anything, certainly dont want to be anything I am not, wouldnt mind actually being somewhere am not, physically that is.

Of course I accept things for what they are, it wont miraculously cure my depression though.

Look very closely, look deep within, you'll find resistance. Look outwards you'll find there are no miracles out there. You beat cancer Y, the miracles lie within you.
