Talking with the guys at my local store the other day and they are taking Xmas Day off as well as reduced hours on all Publc Holidays. I remember the complaints we used to get when our store was shut on Xmas Day and Good Friday. For some reason, cows seem to ignore these important days and force the farmers to work everyday of the year. Often during my last job I would see cows lined up late afternoon waiting like a mob of brown's cows for the farmer to open the gates to the milking shed.

I did see a program recently where a dairy on the NSW Far North Coast has a fully automated computer assisted setup where the cows can wander in at anytime they feel like it and the computers take over the teat cleansing, putting the milker on, giving the cows a bit of feed, disconnecting the milker when finished and sending them on the way without human intervention.

The computer records all of the cow details as well as the time of milking and the quantity. If production is falling off, then the farmer is informed by computer and he/she can do further checks as to the reason.

Be so funny if the bulls got wise to the machine and dropped in for a handj*b rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Nearly 2015 and they can't supply a machine like that for us blokes, but they ask for donations and expect us to do it ourselves mumbling ..... should have nurses for that jmo snooty

Good to get the evening off epirb, we milked all year round and the parents tried to finish early on Christmas eve. A cow calving could throw a spanner in the works though.

Nice set-up, hope the milk price recovers and let me know in case they need new feeding equipment. grin
