Lillie49: Rich v.s. Poor?

How can we possibly put a "Label" on,...anything?
What is Rich..and what is Poor??

Are we RICH in mind...or material possesions?

Does mind over matter really count?

depends.... but "Good Tony Soprano" explain it well... its all about perception.

Call me Lilith because I will not lay beneath Adam.
Living within my means makes me wealthy of mind.
What I share with other women is safety and love of self has no price.

Lillie49: Hiya Rohaan...
What an interesting way of putting it. Or one could say I've been poor in knowledge..and rich in knowledge?
Thanks for your response, I may have to think on a reply yet
I've always been content to live around the ocean and small cottage amongst nature
I'm afraid I was either not clear or my way of putting down my thoughts has been misinterpreted. I do not disagree with you, or with others who have said similar things. I live simply, and am extremely content. (I live frugally, in a small cottage, by the ocean...) It is not about the material goods--here it is again, and I hope it is clearer: It is the disenfranchising, i.e. the exclusion of people to realize educational and artistic potentials, etc... because they lack the capital to do so. This is what makes people "poor" rather than "rich"--the exclusion, not the material goods. (Please understand that it can be difficult to get points of view across without being able to have actual one-on-one contact. Much is lost in only being able to "write", rather than have a more concrete talk). Again, we are on the same page, if you can get past what you think I mean and what I am trying to say in this difficult arena. Thanx.

BerrySmoothie: Hi Rohann,

I probably disagree with the famous actress. I'm happy with being merely comfortable in monetary wealth, not particularly rich either....but being able to sustain a reasonable lifestyle.

I would not ever wish to return to what I had previously. I had it all in terms of material possessions, and not a happy chickie.

It's the simpler things in life that I appreciate now.

...but that just is me.
Please read my last post--I am not in any disagreement with you. (I don't think you read what I 'meant', but I also take responsibility for perhaps being a little unclear, even though it wasn't intentional.

I'm poor in money but I'm rich in having people around me who love me.

Material things have never meant that much to me they can always be replaced.

But people now that is another thing all together. They are irreplaceable to me.

thumbs up wave
Understood more clearer what you have said..and I agree.
Lacking the capital posts people in a category where they should not be labelled at all. I dislike 'labelling' of any kind.
Altho' I agree with your comment, I have not the "Harvard" words to express myself very well here, but thank you for your words.
Probably did not say what I wanted too as elegantly as you have

Poor means bad and spirit and wicked in mind,

Rich means good in spirit and strong in mind,

So yes always mind over matter.

Poverty isn't a mystery to the poor. If they were to say that they're rich in mind, knowledge or experience they would be being somewhat sarcastic. Matter is very much in your mind when you'd don't have any and the people who say mind over matter don't usually have money matters.

More accurately it's what you grow up with which determines this. The self-made rich man retains the base sensibilities of poverty and it's what helps them to become so ruthlessly thrifty, clear-sighted and competitive, and the bourgeoisie loser in life who descends into poverty never really becomes streetwise and remains forever doe-eyed.

Genes still play a part, of course. Occasionally you find someone at the bottom who doesn't belong there and you also find people in the middle/upper with the temperament of a prole. There are people born poor who are artsy or dreamy mind over matter types and there are people born rich who are earthy or steely matter over mind types. But usually the opposite is the case.
