Lawyers will exploit the situation and sue for the highest figure possible with the backing of a moronic public which lets bankers get away with it but hunts the people actually worth something to the world down like dogs.

Buying one of these cars is like booking a first class flight and a 4* hotel and receiving a standard flight and a 5* hotel. Fair won't enter into it.

On this we agree. I suspect the problem (corruption) runs way deeper than just VW. It has been going on for years and auto design engineers go from company 1 to company 2 every now and then and I doubt the trick was unknown outside of VW. It could develop that rather than produce cleaner running engines, many car manufacturers have been just manipulating the software to hide dirty exhaust during tests.

I'm not convinced the air quality in the USA is any worse because of this VW scandal.

Most States today have large automated continuous and intermittent ambient air quality monitoring and near real-time data reporting systems and they have not reported any increases in measured criteria pollutants during this period that contributes to hazardous levels of fugitive particulate or gases.

I think modeling software for this situation would also show negligible health and terrestrial effects.

Jest my humble two cents... wave

Have you ever evaluated related easily available ambient air quality data reported hourly by federal, state and local air agencies recently? There are some exceptions, but, the air quality in the USA is better than good today.

I drive an Audi Q5 v6 3.0 turbo diesel with the urea system and it has zero emissions during stationary test and during mobile tests. The smaller VW cars having the smaller I4-cylinder Diesel engines are the vehicles in violation.

Had VW put the larger v6 diesel, without the urea system, in the smaller cars there pollution emission levels would have been less because the load would be less,

galrads: Hahaha the only vehicles completely exempt from a tail pipe inspection in Ohio are all-electric vehicles. OBD-II tests are common but they still shove probes in tail pipes in the buckeye state.

By an electric car and you will not be driving a mobile source of emissions. Now, what you plug that electric vehicle into might just be a coal fired power plant with a failing bag house/scrubber making it a violating stationary-source emitting so2 and eventually acid rain down wind somewhere.
Environmental Canada has long blamed coal fired power plant sources in Ohio for acid rain in Canada.

There are two major setbacks to electric cars, one, as you mentioned, is the pollution created by manufacturing the electricity. The second is the construction and disposal of the batteries, when we can use efficient solar panels and have designed simple, lightweight and highly efficient batteries, then the electric car will kill off all fossil fuelled transport.
I guess we will all just have to wait, but at the moment in time, it just isn't going to happen!

I think pedestians should not walk where it is intended for vehicles,, and obey traffic signs,, not just to cross anywhere/anytime, descipline is quite the point here,,
