Yes it i totally true..
My daughter my niece and myself all have our periods at the same time.. within a day or tow of each other.
And within a close group of women working together for a while, their cycle will alter slowly to synchronise with all the other women.
Not an urban myth at all.

I sit amongst way too many women to believe,....old wives tale,...young wives tale,...sisters, cousins,....too many tales,...
your cycles are close,...but it is similar to the lunar cycle myth.....

Perhaps sychronised is the wrong word.
Perhaps sequenced is more accurate, the most dominant ovulating fist, which might make more sensein terms of pack fertility.
