WittyandWise: People are hired as fund raisers, and paid a percentage of what they raise. I've no objection to this, they've earned it and they have brought money into the charity/organisation, its their job.

I do believe in salaries for those who work for charities, at the end of the day they are getting the job done. Whether the salary is too much would depend on the remit of their job/role etc and thus should be a fair salary in line with their workload. Most of the money should go to the charitable cause.

All charities must declare how much of the money raised goes to the charity and they also must declare how much goes to the causes, so check out your charities.

I choose my charities and don't give to all.

The more they raise they more they earn how much would you like to donate towards my tour of Ireland fund

I'll buy you a pint when you reach Corkgrin

There are worse offenders, but just look at what the GAA is becoming JT. When I was kicking a ball about in my twenties I was able to go out for a few pints at the weekend, and I am sure you were the same.

Nowadays there are more suits in the game and lads are expected to adhere to professional codes of etiquette.

Suits are all about money, look at the GAA selling our games to Sky.

And become like the idiots that call themselves
Men in the premiership?

Being not paid keeps them connected with the fans
Partly because they have to work with them and
Are on the same level because of it

It's a truly unique and special situation

Money corrupts

Yes and keep the suits out and rotten sky, there's
Vast amount of people in the Gaa take nothing and
The suits aren't creaming it either

Don't have to tell you that the cash is filtered
Back to the grass roots, every club has good
Facilities.

Look at the soccer here the best local clubs have
Are tin boxes and hedges they're more worthy
Of a mention when it comes to taking the money

Gonzo delaneys the perfect example

WittyandWise: No no no Stanley (it should be yes yes yes Witty)
I think we both agree with regard to the extortionate salaries, however, charities can deliver so much more with so much more income, hence hiring someone to do the job, with a reasonable wage; not extortionate but also not below the wage they should earn pending the job they do.
Would you work for a minimal salary which only covered your expenses? If so who pays your bills; feeds your family etc Let's be reasonable here.
A fair wage for all regardless of whom they work for.

Also one must keep in mind the difference in community and voluntary organisations and charities: both fit into the definition of a charity and both will hold charitable status.

Macmillan cancer raise money to support families and patients, they have paid staff.
Barnado's help children in need, they have paid staff, actually I'd like a job with them, lol they've some cracker jobs, a fair salary but a worthwhile job.
Charity shops have volunteers but some also have paid Managers of those shops.
Some jobs are funded through funders others are funded through income brought in by the charities/organisations fund raising.

A fair wage for a fair job and if it enhances that charity/organisation then I am for it.

I am against those who claim to raise money for charities and yet if you read the small print, only a small percentage goes to the charity.
I am against those who earn extortionate sums, we have pay scales in most professions now, these should be followed.

Those people collecting names on streets for regular donations are also paid, fair enough.

The more I think about it the more I want to be employed on a percentage of what I bring in Kidding; I want a job were I'm hands on with people

Re the hippy van, are you going to paint over young; fit & female; welcome aboard

We will agree to disagree on greedy, money grabbing executives and their exorbitant salaries.laugh

i will agree that money corrupts but a lot of those lads are like any other lads, they have responsibilities like kids and mortgages etc. they need money, plain and simple. they give amazing commitment and make major sacrifices, they entertain us, inspire us and most importantly, they create hope in society. they help us to remove us from our humdrum lives, they just should be paid. i believe a handful of people in the gaa are creaming it on the backs of these lads. its shameful behavior. i do see your point though towards the english premiership. i believe the problem there is due to basically the privatisation of the league and the fact that major corporations like sky etc became the main financial backers. it set up a recipe for disaster really as it becomes like any major private corporation, i.e. maximisation of profits at all costs. most hurlers have incredible passion for their sport. its inspiring. i come from a family of hurling nuts. no real interest myself but i can see its importance in society.

All players should be looked after with good meaningful
Jobs where working 9 to 5 gets them a good living
Like the way it use to be.

Look at the kilkenny players, not a penny and they come
Back time and time again for their all Ireland medal because
No million could replace the joy winning the medal gave to
Them, they're a credit to not just Kilkenny but the whole
Country

What officials are creaming it?
