Next weekend I'm off. I booked next Friday/Monday as a holiday...And tonight on the flip of a coin I am going to find out if I gate crash family/friends or lone wolf it somewhere.

Only thing that's certain before midnight is a coin will be flipped and a decision made.

How everything I am currently interested in doing, is so expensive to start it up moping

Looking at buying a sewing machine, want to make my own dresses (obsessed with medieval style dresses - bell shaped sleeves and long), but getting hold of the fabrics is a killer in postage (drawback of living in the middle of nowhere, I guess mumbling)

Looking at kilns again too, to get back into pottery, but ouch.. wish I'd never given up on my previous kiln crying

You can get some nice fabrics over ebay and there is a shop in Newbridge selling fabrics - think it's mainly for upholstering though. On my way there now, will have a look and let you know. gotta go

You are a treasure KNenagh hug

I found a lot of great offers on amazon, was over the moon, then went to check out - and saw the postage costs of 160 euro wow If I pay almost as much in postage as for the fabrics themselves, it's going to be too dear to justify.

I looked for shops in Ireland, but everything seems hours away. Was wondering whether I could just buy curtains and transform them into dresses confused laugh

You actually could (as long as you get curtains you can throw into the washing machine). If you're going that direction, it's €5 a meter and they have nice stuff, not the usual rusty red flowers with brown or pink and green stripes. uh oh I'm looking for upholstery fabrics though, stopped there to see what they have a while ago and heading up now to get stuff. I sometimes do get stuff from Amazon myself, but the postage makes it uninteresting. sigh Trying to buy as much as possible from the same amazon shop can work as they charge you only once for postage. Did you try amazon prime? (not sure if fabrics fall under this though). conversing

Hope you'll find something you like. hug

I shall try what you said, will see if I can find different fabrics from the same seller on amazon thumbs up. Found really nice fabrics and ever so cheap, but almost fell off chair when I saw the postage crying
Will have a look at that prime thing too, no idea at the moment what it really means, just saw the word at amazon.
Ebay, I remember, only works with Paypal? And I cancelled Paypal some point as they gave me a lot of trouble. Reason I have recently been looking into amazon, after having not bought anything online for years.

I shall try the curtain route for sure then ^______^
Total noob when it comes to sewing, was badly traumatized as a child, but always wanted to learn it to make those dresses! Now is the time - gotta tackle that silly sewing machine phobia to get the bell sleeves of my dreams! boxing

Ty heaps, KNenagh heart wings and hope you will find some lovely fabrics for what you are planning! Are you making the upholstery yourself?

Bought some of these old Queen Ann chairs. Need to repair the springs on one and not sure how to do that, confused but will take the chair in question with me and ask. Maybe they have an idea. They do need new upholstery fabric (not into pale pink really). They had tons of stuff, should find something nice there. I don't have paypal either and it does stop buying me stuff of ebay sometimes.

Some shops offer sewing courses, did you have a look into that? My sewing machine broke AGAIN last week, will have to buy a new one. mumbling I don't sew dresses (think it's nice though), but have curtains to take up, a roman blind to sew and find it handy to take in/repair clothes. conversing

Sewing your own clothes is a nice skill, have fun. hug

I found a machine at Argos, which looks fantastic. Great reviews, and it seems very reasonable in price.

What a shame about those spings, but hope you can get that fixed. Think a shop selling the fabrics might will know, or at least be able to point you in the right directions? Else, maybe to try youtube. Seems there is no tutorial left on this earth, which can't be found on youtube laugh

As for learning to sew, I will do it like with most things - just start and see where it gets me. I am useless with courses, my brain switches off when someone explains something to me. I need to just 'do it' and work by trial and error. Same way how I got into pottery, just bought a kiln and off I went. Can be risky uh oh but my brain just doesn't grasp it any other way sad

Sewing looks a fantastic skill to have thumbs up to you for being 1 millions steps ahead of me already! To me it's.. I have looked into buying dresses I dream of, but they cost so much, and then I just end not wearing them but forever 'save' them (meaning they just live in the wardrobe indefinitely, too nice and expensive to be taken out doh)

If I can sew them though, for cheaper and able to fix them and remake them as it pleases me - winner grin grin grin

Thanks Tiny, will have a look at the link. Seeing that I always seem to break them, uh oh buying one in a shop I can bring it back for repair might be better for me. Just no shops in Kilkenny, that would mean driving a good bit.

Yup, I get it with the dresses and I think someone that you made yourself is something you like wearing anyway (at least that's the case with the stuff I make). I can recommend Pinterest, lots of ideas, tutorials and sometimes even pattern. Well worth a look, I got tons of ideas from there. thumbs up

Got some lovely fabric today, it's a place well worth stopping and having a look whenever you're down that direction. conversing
