thelad2007: very very true. it ll be interesting to see how and when this one will fall. unfortunately i think it ll be catastrophic failure

It already is that. The idea is good, countries in close proximity making it easier to trade, move around this rock easier....

A great concept but very badly thought out idea.... <---For the sheeple.

Lad, we both know the unelected few in the EU are also up to their necks in the IMF...UN..World Bank...Lad, how many people do you know that the US Federal Reserve, EU funding, IMF, know its really all controlled by the Bank of England...

this would not be an easy decision and would probably bring chaos to our economy. our own currency would probably be trashed on the open market amongst other things. i think yanis varoufakis could be right here, leaving the eu may not be possible as the road to get in is destroyed upon entry. i think the eu is in big trouble, particularly in a monetary sense. its a dreadful system that probably will never work, leading me to believe, it ll probably collapse catastrophically, which worries me a lot. i think ireland is in a very vulnerable position regarding these issues.

snowlynx: I think the EU has been great for Ireland as it helped us come kicking and screaming into the 20th. century with regard to women's rights, right to work and control over their own bodies, gay rights and so on.

But gave us in return the theft of 700 billion euro of our fish stocks since 1974 and also 42% of the European banking debt from the 2008 collapse

I'd say ur a bit optimistic with the 700 billion euro lost from
our fish stocks. Would we land fish worth an average of 17 billion
every year for the past 42 years confused
Maybe u meant millions.
It's true to say that we could have built our fishing industry a lot bigger and increased turnover times 20 if we were not part of eu
rules and quotas. ireland

it may have been good at one stage but this has dramatically changed since the bailout. it has come clear to me that the eu is just a massive neoliberal movement that is just a huge wealth extraction process of the whole euro zone particularly with 'weaker' economic countries such as ireland. the imf have been stripping wealth from countries for decades, leaving their economies in pieces pretty much forever more. its main tools for the wealth extraction process are taxation and debt. its a very efficient system and works extremely effectively. i cant see ireland ever returning to the 1960's doom and gloom but i can envisage it happening if the eu does not reform or collapses. reform is probably the better option but this may not happen. a collapse would probably be catastrophic.

all the oils nearly done, we re coming to end of the era of cheap energy im afraid, this is another major problem facing us. i beleive major oil fields have not been discovered since the 60's/70's, so we re really coming to the end of it. i was only at a talk last night where nuclear energy was mentioned regarding a possibility of our future energy needs. it looks like we will have to cut back on meat to as its becoming too expensive to process.

yea this is a tough one for england. the divorce wont be easy and the eu probably wont make it easy in their ignorance.

ah the type of nuclear mentioned last night is fusion, apparently much cleaner and safer than fission. we havent built a commercially successful fusion reactor yet. i think we are gonna have to look at this for our energy needs as im not convinced renewable sources will be enough. apparently theres a couple of hundred years of coal left on the planet so theres probably enough for your needs but we have to move away from fossil fuels asap. its not right on future generations.
