One2note: Talking to people face to face , chatting via phone , or hiding behind a computer screen?
For me, it's talking face to face with a person. You get a vibe, either through eye contact or body movement. A simple hi & a smile goes a long long way , whereas online, that probably wouldn't get a response & you have to guess what kind of wording would merit a response !
Which one of the three would be more comfortable with?
Trying to decipher what's been said, translating a meaning, face to face can have its merrits. Rolling eyeballs, hand gestures, facial expressions etc it all ads detail to the complex package with which we communicate. Mail, email I do like. Phones I seldom answer. I find it intrusive. Text messages I will read and might reply to, voice messages I never listen to. Doesn't mean I can't hang on the phone for hours with some but the idea of chatting with someone I barely know I find as appealing as chewing vomit. Chit-chat small talk is something that can change my confidence. Not that I can't but I find it exhausting. I have no problem with socially suicide silence. Except for chit chat none of the above changes my confidence. Who I'm talking to might make a difference with that.

Call me cynical, but it's never faired well for me in the past .
