The thing is, western society has become so americanalised , we have lost sight of real values

Thethingaboutitis, most women say they want to look good for themselves, which basically translates to, "the better they look, the worse other women feel about themselves"
So in essence, they're not competing with other women to gain a mans attention, they are competing with each other!

I think there's a difference between feeling wholly good about oneself and perfection.

I don't think people aim for perfection, I think they aim for feeling wholly good about themselves.

So why do they emphasis so highly beauty, as a way of feeling good about themselves, where there are so many other "feel good factors" , when there are so many other options available?

To answer your grammatically pickled question John, perhaps because it's a sticking plaster industry with instant gratification.

To look at the cognitive and emotional issues behind achieving feeling wholly good about yourself is a slow and often uncomfortable process. The physical agony of waxing maybe pales into insignicance by comparison. laugh

So what is the end outcome?
A more loyal , caring, loving , intelligent etc. partner, or to be admired , like a statue, or another work of art?

Ok, let me rephrase that!
What is the purpose of looking glamorous, other than to be admired like a work of art?

Glamorous...?

That's an interesting turn of phrase.

Are you asking me personally, or in general?

I tell you what, I'll try and answer that from a personal perspective, as I found the word 'glamorous' evocative.

I'm a wee, minion service provider. I used to have to wear black, which I had great fun with in my own quirky, arty way. I'd bounce into work feeling like chocolate, both emotionally and physically comfortable.

My job involves a lot of interaction and I'd bubble away at people who seemed to take great delight in my presentation. They'd have a bit of fun interacting with me and I was frequently complimented on my dress, 'glamorous' being one of the phrases frequently used even though I'm far from conventionally glamorous.

The powers to be then decided us minions would be far better at our jobs if we wore restrictive, sweaty, polyester. I go to work feeling like I'm not considered grown up enough, or human enough to decide for myself what to wear in the mornings. It's highlighted the divide between minion and management and effects teamwork. It seems to give some customers licence to treat us as lesser beings. I work all day feeling physically uncomfortable, as if I have pan scourers secreted about my person.

I've lost my bubbles. Sharing my bubbles was such a great thing. Other people benefitted from my endless bubble production. People sometimes badly need a few bubbles to play with to get them through their day.

Clothing can be quite powerful on a number of different levels. It's not just about appearing as an object to be admired, or bagging a man.

I would have expected a speedy and sizable reaction to this. It's not like the usual suspects to miss such an opportunity.

ChesneyChrist: A long time ago generations, in place of fake tan, put gravy powder on their legs.

I would imagine, at the very least, this would have got them plenty of attention from any dogs in the area.
