Perfectionism - particularly the idea that others must accord to a perfect standard when you yourself do not.

The 1% - a rare breed over and above humanity demanding to be admired a such.

Lack of accountability - it's never my fault. Which is what undermines the perfectionism of a narcissist, the true perfectionist needs to be his own harshest critic whereas the narcissist is less interested in being perfect than appearing perfect. Pefectionism proper acknowledges its own mistakes perhaps too much.

Individualism and being entranced by your own uniqueness. Collectivist cultures such as those in the far east, eastern and central europe score lower in narcissism. America goes through the roof remember the driving spirit of capitalism is keeping up with the Jones - pure narcissism.

Chances are it'll destroy the world. The problem with narcissism is that no matter how nice and privileged you make a place narcissism will take it for granted, you wonder why 18 stone Americans who have ruined an empire and imploded in debt can talk about personal responsiblity this is because of narcissism. To perform so poorly whilst sustaining such a great level of perfectionism is the narcissistic way; Americans don't forgive mistakes even though they are one, a massive one.

Another feauture of narcissism is its hold over women, especially depressed women who like to be treated badly. And men don't help. Women receive attention so easily and cheaply that this not only heightens their own narcissism, but gives her a love of bad boys who keep their feet on the ground. The bad boy is a male narcissist with the charm to get away with it, and especially depressed women who want to put in a mountain of effort for no more than a blip of approval. The narcissist is if nothing else difficult to please.

The two narcissists I knew/know in person both were/are people with a heavy NPD. They did not or do not even know of narcissism. They talked in a devaluating way about others regarding visual things or laughed at and about people who are not so well educated.
In my eyes I would almost say that real narcissists are too blind and too little interested in others to see a personality disorder or a narcissistic trait in others. I hope that makes sense laugh

anyone who uses uses religion, dogmas, power, relationships, to control, manipulate, downgrade others. Mostly by taking advantage of people to reach his or her own goals. (great actors too)

Most of them have a grandiose sense of self-importance, and tthey do try to minimize any version of reality that conflicts with theirs.

we do need mirrors here - slapping mirrors.

Found this online and wanted to share with you!!

To be succinct, the narc is most dangerous when one of two realities are entering their space. The first is more abstract or simply defined in less tangible terms while never the less daunting for the narc. This is when a narc senses like a predator in the jungle having stalked it prey, ever patient…always diligent to the conditions that surround he or she, determines the prey [ supply source] is becoming aware of their status or intuitively begin to incrementally become more aware…sensing something within the space is adrift…like a nuance noise in the jungle sounding alert to the unexpected. At this juncture the narc like a muscle reflex begin to become reactive…sometimes subtly …with poise and precision while other times with vigor…hostility…while ever…always dangerous. Their eyes dilate as jaws lock…and a distilled focus ensues. This moment is genuinely an existential one for the narc consequently for all those in his or her space danger is abundant.

The second reality for which the narc can become dangerous is even more stark…tangible and odious. The narc counter intuitively to most, begins a second phase endeavor with a well entrenched relationship where he or she begins to create a circle of “ flying monkeys” to align with his or her intentions to demean and diminish you [hence you being a cause and his or her being the effect { and thus a victim }] while you are progressing with the relationship unknowing nor possessing any concerns. This action is the beginning of the end of the relationship as any rational or logical human being could comprehend yet, due to the subterfuge and perfected nature of the narc you remain unaware and like the prey in the jungle when danger approaches…danger of unknowing proportions and consequence, you carry on a daily routine until the moment the danger arcs into a moment in time when all things imaginable and unimaginable become your new reality. The narc has you backed up against the abyss while the danger of the moment produces not a fight or flight reaction as much as a deer in the headlights of an 18 wheeler scenario. You are in abject shock. You are frozen in time. Danger abounds as the moment envelops you like humidity on a August day in central Florida.
In closing, danger and the narc are for those entering into their realm is much like war…95% of the time life simply remains inconsequential and routine and then , not knowing…completely unprepared you are confronted with a most difficult of realities; the enemy has entered your interior world as a single shot is fired…a second shot…a flurry of shots and then you realize much like Custer at the Little Big Horn, you are surrounded …our numbered, overwhelmed and on the run with all that you deem essential under siege. Danger created by a well prepared and ever determined narc has enveloped you. This is the apex of the narc’s danger …the moment they witness blood in the street as the prey stumbles, falls, cries for mercy. This is the narcs grandest moment unfolding.

unlaoised: It's desperate for children with a narcissistic parent/s. They're trapped until old enough to separate themselves. ...but separate, they must....out of an extremely toxic relationship.

mollybaby: It's easier for an outsider to see the signs than somebody invested in the relationship.

Two different friends of mine have been involved with one. I could see the signs. It is harder for the person involved. They keep making excuses for the person, and saying that it was themselves that was in the wrong.

One of them got out on time once I made them read the signs and symptoms for themselves.
The other is still not fully out, but I am living in hope.
You are a good friend and I hope the second lady takes your advice!
What were the red flags you observed or was it intuition?

Rachie14: I'll add to this..

By introducing another term known as mirroring. This is something to be very aware of on dating sites and social networks.
Thank you Rachie
You think you’ve found, “The One”. Everything you like they like, you never thought you would find someone else that loves everything you love, everything you want in life they want to. You will feel safe and assured in sharing and you end up letting your guard down. They share so many intimate things with you too, making it a very safe trusting space. You have so much in common and seem to mesh well together. You’re flying high on all the goodness that seems to surround you. There is no reason for you to think this person is anything other than what they’ve shown themselves to be and you are in love. The sad fact is, that you have fallen in love with yourself, because this person is mirroring you like a parrot.
