We are all supposed to be here (or most of us) to find a partner of sorts.
So , have we become too familiar with each other, thinking that we know each other well .
Are we like, the best friend,, the wise sister/brother, the batty uncle,, the annoying aunt, the trusted niece,, the sad member that's always negative, the uplifting one that's always positive.
The member that wants to be everyone's friend, but everyone knows that he/she is only thinking about themselves.
Well, i did google it, as i wasn't quite sure, and i was happy with the meaning of disfunctional,, i did wonder who would be the first to comment on that so well done, you win the prize, ,,,, it's hot tongue,& cold shoulder ,,enjoy!!
quite the opposite really, I accept most peoples difficulties as a way of better understand the issues we all face, in life and what a wonderful place cs is that caters for all peoples across this world,
your thread is a tad pessimistic considering how many love stories began here and still do 2018
I see it as less a dysfunctional family, and more like the bar in Cheers.
A place where people drop in, know the characters. They can have a bit of craic with others at the bar, or sit by themselves grumbling about about everybody else. Sometimes new characters drop in, sometimes they stay, sometimes they go. Some people get barred from the bar for causing trouble, others just sit quietly surveying they rest.
Then all go out the door at closing tme and back to their own lives.

I like the way you compare it which is intellectually right

That's what i think too.
I was in that cheers bar it was empty on the day i called.
I was challenged with this very question the other day.... "if you're single, why are you not here to date", whilst not verbatim, that was the gist of it... Might be we start with an intent to date in one way or another, but become quick studies of our own form and the form of others...and lo, the forums become a 'friendship zone' (kinda sorta) and another social platform (boards lite / fb)... There's very likely a lot of singles who would rather be doubles, and I'm sure doubles who are attracted to the lure of a social presence, and of course, those who combine both... I have come to believe if someone meets me in person, there's no mistaking who I am, and interpersonal exchanges are direct and in the moment, nothing calculated... Here we can go in and tweak the program when there's a glitch, 'ITRW', it's a different kettle of fish... Will I stay, possibly, would I be missed if I left again... Consider the way of the chip wrapper, once you were news, and then you were history...and as we say....'the world just keeps on turning'....
