I've mellowed with age... But when I was younger and more … territorial..... I would say this to unexpected company " Ah! Unexpected company! You know what they say about unexpected company... They're UNEXPECTED. Maybe call first!": and then I'd slam the door in their face.
Now-a-days I'd say the exact same thing... but would just look at them pathetically afterwards and say "Come in ...you're getting soak and wet in the rain! What brings you out on a night like tonight? Let me put on some coffee... Something tells me its going to be a long night."
