Opium Wars
This move provoked Britain to declare war in order to protect its illegal drug-smuggling operations. The First Opium War lasted from 1839 to 1842. ... China lost the war and had to cede Hong Kong to Britain in the Treaty of Nanking. As a result, Hong Kong became a crown colony of the British Empire.14 Aug 2019.

Dec. 19, 1984, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (1925–2013) and Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang (1919–2005) signed the Sino-British Joint Declaration, in which Britain agreed to return not only the New Territories but also Kowloon and British Hong Kong itself when the lease term expired.
Under the declaration's terms, Hong Kong would become a special administrative region (SAR) under the People's Republic of China (PRC), and it was expected to enjoy a high degree of autonomy outside of foreign and defense affairs. For a period of FIFTY YEARS AFTER THE END OF THE LEASE, Hong Kong would remain a free port with a separate customs territory and sustain markets for free exchange.

On July 1, 1997, the lease ended and the government of Great Britain transferred control of British Hong Kong and the surrounding territories to the People's Republic of China.

.... As you already know ^^^

WHICH BRINGS US TO 2047.. but China wants total control and suppression and Communism now and BROKE THE AGREEMENT with the BRITISH GOVERNMENT, at Hong Kong's expense.

But neither the British government or anyone else will stand up for Hong Kong and their freedom.

Because OMG.. Don't upset China. doh mumbling

I think if it comes to Western safety and throwing Hong Kong under a bus who would you choose.
By all means if you feel strongly enough go and join them

So what has China exactly broken within the agreement made with the UK?
Oh wait a moment, they haven't broken anything and the majority of people living in HK are happy with being a part of China, even ex-pats think being under China is better than under the British rule, which was never a democratic governance.

As usual, people talk a lot and say nothing as they really have no idea of the real facts surrounding Hong Kong.

Why should the UK get involved? The UK has no influence or control within Hong Kong, it would be like China intervening between England and Scotland's independence.
Just because the UK had control previously does not mean that has any bearing on events happening today.
As for China sending in troops, I doubt very much they would do that unless the riots became so large as to put the majority of Hongkongers under threat.
The USA would use any actual interference by mainland China as an excuse to increase the trade war and make more money from the sad situation

The way things are going is playing directly into China's hands, their single party is seen as successful and the two-party with national vote seen as an abject failure.

Ask yourself this question, if things are as bad as the media makes out, why can people cross the border in both directions between HK and China? Sure if things are so bad the first thing to do would be to shut the border, very easy thing to do, yet the movement between the two areas is only slightly down in numbers compared with this time last year.

That's as I see it too.

But now the demonstrators are being invaded by a rouge element, this will not help the true hong kong folk who do not want to be ruled by China.
The pact as I know it between Britain and china was that a two state laws were to be implemented
for a length of time and China has broken that.

I watched the Syrian uprising turn into horrible horrible times, as the rouge element infiltrated that. Thousands have died in that once legit struggle. I can see this happening in Hong \Kong sad flower

That's what happened in the mall. Infiltration. Sadly, it is a common and effective tactic, globally and historically.

Bitter Winter is an online magazine that exposes religious persecution in China. They recently got the attention of the Chinese Communist Party after reporters inside China risked their lives to get footage of the detention camps in Xinjiang, where more than a million ethnic Uighur Muslims have been sent. China calls them "vocational training camps." The videos says differently. What's it like to risk your life reporting from China? Shelley Zhang interviews Bitter Winter's Director-in-Charge Marco Respinti to find out.

(25:51) "China’s “Red Market” Destruction of Religion | Bitter Winter Part 2"

China will roll tanks and march troops with machine guns into Hong Kong. Their economy may have become substantially capitalist, but the pols at the top are hardline against allowing personal freedoms and open dissent comparable to the West. As has been said, think of Tibet and Tiananmen Sq.

Cause and effect: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction etc etc, thee shalt not kill..some believe cause and effect is certain. Karma like in killing other mother sentient beings is akin to killing your own past mothers, who gave birth to you, fed you and protected you countless times. because, because, because reasoning explaining cycle of birth and death, its causes !!

Having regard to that sought of thinking process, take a look at these Karmas !!

According to the Korean news agency Yonhap, officials in Yeoncheon County had killed 47,000 pigs in a bid to curb the spread of ASF and were preparing to bury the bodies on Sunday and Monday.

South Korea has culled more than 380,000 pigs since reporting its first-ever cases of ASF, which is believed to have spread across the border from the North.

Vietnam has suffered particularly badly, culling 5.7 million pigs since its first case in January this year. China, which has been fighting the disease since August 2018, says it has slaughtered 1.2 million animals and blames the outbreak in part for a historic slowdown in the country’s economic growth.

Hong Kong, China, America NATO, Russia, Israel wherever you look lots of karma's are being played out constantly, then think about other sentient beings, birds insects, animals, fish etc, consider the seeds of their tomorrows that they to a engaged in, and my CS mail box person sent mail asking question, question answered, then the first mail I received, and politely responded to somehow has promptly disappeared and so i using culling 5.7 million pigs since its first case in January this year for berrying my comment and raise my personal concerns about the level of karma's been played out in Hong Kong

I cannot envisage China sending tanks and troops into HK, in Hong Kong there is a feeling that a lot of financial backing is coming from China mainland, if the CCP can financially bankrupt HHK, it plays straight into their hands, Xi can say, "look our single party not only works, but is making China strong and growing economically. But look at how the democratic system has totally failed in Hong Kong".
So why would China try to intervene and stop something that actually makes the CCP look good?
The demonstrators in HK need to end the violence and stop the protests as they are very near to destroying Hong Kong and the freedom enjoyed here. They are getting less and less support from the majority of Hongkongers who initially were fully supportive of the action

(2:17) "Hong Kong votes overwhelmingly for pro-democracy camp with record turnout in local elections"
The outcome of Hong Kong’s district council elections on November 24, 2019, left the city’s pro-Beijing camp reeling from a landslide defeat. A record nearly 3 million Hongkongers turned out to cast their votes. The results from the usually uneventful local elections sent a powerful signal as the majority slipped from the pro-establishment camp to pan-democratic politicians. The results are considered a barometer of public sentiment about months of anti-government protests in the city as well as how Chief Executive Carrie Lam has handled the crisis

Pretty sure your right about the likely outcome, and currently President Putin is hindering any possibility of an early resolution because:
Maoism is a form of communism developed by Mao Tse Tung. It is a doctrine to capture State power through a combination of armed insurgency, mass mobilization and strategic alliances.

A Hong Kong scholar alleges that at least 45 million people died unnecessary deaths during China's Great Leap Forward from 1958 to 1962, including 2.5 million tortured or summarily killed

Pol Pot was fully backed by China he was another madman the leader of the revolutionary Khmer Rouge. Pol Pot oversaw the Cambodian genocide.
Pol Pot was the political leader whose communist Khmer Rouge government led Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During that time, an estimated 1.5 to 2 million Cambodians died of starvation, execution, disease or overwork.
There Killing fields dot the countryside of Cambodia, with more than 20,000 mass grave sites containing more than 1.38 million bodies according to the Documentation Centre of Cambodia

The Uygurs like Tibetan peoples suffered an invasion by Chinese, who first invaded Tibet in 1952 then again in 1962/64. Tibet had not at any time ever been part of China.
Genghis Khan who was the founder and first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, ruled China and at the same time also ruled Tibet, Genghis Khan invaded Tibet which was (I think) was controlled by a religion known as Bon. Bon religion was the native religion in Tibet, dating back more than 3,800 years.
The first Dalai Lama, Gedun Drupa, was born in 1391. He founded the Tashi Lhunpo monastery and wrote books on philosophy. Gedun Drupa 1391–1474 was considered posthumously to be the 1st Dalai Lama.

It is my understanding the first Dalai Lama was later named by the third Panchen Lama Gyalwa Ensapa Yeshe, Ensapa Lobsang Döndrup was a Tibetan Buddhist religious leader. He was posthumously recognised as the third Panchen Lama. Ensapa was known to have spent more than 20 years meditating in isolated caves near the Himalayan mountains. When he was a young boy Gyalwa Ensäpa received many visions of Buddha Shakyamuni.
I was appointed as Director of Temple Gyalwa Ensapa at Killabakh in the State of NSW and I am saying in respect to Uygur and Tibetan peoples the Chinese are talking crap lying there teeth out neither the Uygur’s or Tibetans had previously been part of China. Bill Clinton authorised the world map to change that status of Tibet to be known as part of China when it never has been…China occupies the regions and also I believe shot down MH370…

(6:54) Hong Kong Protests, That Began NINE MONTHS AGO, Go On Despite Coronavirus

And that also means Hong Kong police continue to arrest and tear gas people. Many are facing the charge of rioting, which carries a 10 year prison sentence. Apple Daily founder #JimmyLai was also arrested and charged. Will Hong Kong ever gain its freedom from the oppressive Chinese Communist Party? And will #CarriLam and the #WHO stop bowing to #Beijing?
#ChinaUncensored

IMO: HongKongers (as they identify themselves) are exceedingly brave and patriotic.
Either they don't believe China's claims of a deadly virus and/or see it as propoganda or a multifaceted tool/weapon.
Or they realized a long... time ago, "High Price For FREEDOM"
