Disasters bring out both the best and worst in people... Fat women fighting over toilet paper in the shops makes dramatic news footage... People showing compassion and delivering groceries to old people etc., is a nice feel good story to end the news on...

There are millions of less interesting or attention grabbing stories in the middle of that spectrum, that wont get any air time. Some people are just grubs and always will be, thankfully there are those at completely the other end of the spectrum.

2intrigued: This is so sad to watch but it's a reality being faced by many people now and it's time for the government to implement strict rules about limiting the amount of any given product on grocery shelves so that everyone goes home with enough to sustain themselves. Industry must step up production, stores must ensure that their orders meets with the demands of today and people need to be mindful that their greed will not serve them well in the long run.
hug Well stated!!

When people realise the world hasn't come to an end they'll stop fighting over tinned food like crackheads. These are people accustomed to seeing eleven different varieties of parsley sauce on the supermarket shelf and this makes reality shocking.

secretagent09: So now that you realize you don't have enough paper towels and disinfect for two years will you go out and hoard it like you did everything else? Many of those feminine supplies have expiration dates.
Did you think of that?

You didn't say anything in your manifest that you bought soap. Plain bath soap or soap to wash dishes or laundry soap to wash clothes.

Alcohol is good but if you watched doctors on the news they will tell you that all you need is soap and water to wash your hands.
You err. Expiration dates were mandated by the Government to indicate BY THE MAKER of the product the optimum time to for that product to be used. In other words on the side of any product is usually a list of ingredients and how much volume of each ingredient is used (or in food how many calories). The expiration date ONLY CONFIRMS THE AMOUNT on the label, NOT whether the item is still useful or not.
If a company lists an expiration date... it is saying the product inside is GUARANTEED to be insync w/ the label on the outside. That's all.
I am old enough to remember when products didn't have expiration dates and they were fine. Just make sure the container isn't wonky. Bulging cans, leaky tubes, etc.

No ( hoarding on the paper towels). I bought a bundle (25) cotton/linen hand/kitchen/tea towels this past Saturday and will use them for cleaning daily. Then simply wash as needed and reuse.

I have... my goodness... 100 bars minimum of soap. First it was antibacterial soaps, then anti-deodorant soaps, then good ol' Ivory soaps, then Yardley Lavender and other nice smelling soaps, then... charcoal soaps for any skin rashes and then surgical soaps. But just as important … I was at an industrial auction and bought concentrated liquid soaps in large containers where 1 cup of concentrate mixed w/ water makes 3 gallons of liquid soap. (This auction also had the hand sanitizer mentioned earlier).

Laundry Soap. I make my own. What you spend on one large box of Tide... I can make 2 years worth of laundry soap. Since this is PURE soap I can also use it on dishes etc. Should power go out I have a wringer wash bucket and clothes line and pins to do laundry.

Here's the formula to make laundry soap its so easy I've saved hundreds of dollars over the years.

Like I've said I have it all. I prepared for a NUCLEAR ATTACK. Including Gamma ray fall out. A pandemic is NOTHING.

Thanks Jono, and a correction is needed... I didn't mean a pandemic is nothing. I meant to say having prepped for every scenario... a pandemic was the least of my worries, but I purposely overlapped my preps to cover a pandemic as well since blocking out radioactive fall out is akin to blocking out biological agents.
So for me and my house... we are well prepared that a pandemic isn't a big scare.

I don't make my own c silver (I'm scared I might turn into a smurf). I buy it at InfoWars.com

I did make mention of this on your US thread

Colloidal silver is claimed to have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. However, there is currently no evidence that colloidal silver has any of these health benefits. The exact way colloidal silver works is not fully understood. However, it’s thought that silver can bind to bacterial cells and damage their cell walls and DNA, resulting in cell death.

Hope you and your family stay safe Mustang.hug

I might add also in full disclosure that prepping for every scenario caused me to have a minor breakdown.
I actually went and saw a therapist over it (2018) and eventually I had a breakthrough.
Putting oneself under such extreme 'doomsday' type thinking and thought processes 24/7 IS NOT MENTALLY HEALTHY.
I had to come to grips with the fact that I can't control the world events. So if you do prep... do so wisely.
Do so from a good place in your heart... a place of love. Not one of fear.
I have accepted that I can not be 'all that' and nor should I try. I will do my best... and probably fall short.

I guess that can happen to anyone who has a mindset to protect and provide for a family single- handedly. It's hard to relax from the responsibilities of parenthood ,to be their mentor and also care for their wellbeing.

Reckon you are doing a great job so far.handshake

....you say that like smurfs are a bad thing.....laugh

re: pandemic
it went without saying.... i understood

i think you're smart to do what you have done. my friend designed and built a dome in BC back before 2000, and has several containers on her 10 acre property filled. own water filtration from underground creek, /air filtration systems etal...she has done many similar things to which you have done. it takes discipline and planning...and a whole lot of work. (she was hands on building the dome....12" thick walls and she even did the rebarb...lol) she's still working on it. it's safe and done. but the last few years have been more aesthetic concerns. and over these years, she has developed rich relationships with her like minded neighbors up the mountain.

feeling prepared and safe is a nice feeling (grin).

i meant to add...
i didn't use paper towels for most of my life. just started using them about 7-8 years ago.
so you'll be ok. grin
