Wow, Rob! Do you know all this by heart? Impressive :)
3 years ago I took the specification list for a mobile phone - type of SIM-card, type of operative system, processor and number of cores and so on - and googled for every one of them. Now I remember nothing of it and have to repeat the process again. Feel like a fish in a bowl: every round is a new adventure.
HotrodLarrys: Uncertain if this will help you, but it is worth having a look....
My Son bought me an LG phone, the are very reasonable, and very reasonable Monthly rate, and it does about Everything..You can talk to it, it will talk back to you..So No More Lonely Nights..

I had problems connecting to our Telstra Service, which has the widest coverage of available mobile service over all of Australia. Most other services purchase Block of Telstra, like my Aldi phone service does. I had to send back three phones + one i couldn't because the phones were not configured properly to connect to Telstra in this area when Telstra tower was in clear view. (that was quite a while ago now 4 years or something)
Still you might need to check that the phone you intend buying can connect to the sought of available service in your location and wherever you intend Kayaking
Tulefell: Have noticed yesterday that the screen of my mobile phone has loosened from the frame. It's still working, but the clock - she is ticking. Time for a new one.
Have any of you bought a budget mobile recently? Care to share the experience? Expertise is welcome too!
Two yoghurt pots attached with string make an excellent communication device, or consider upgrading with two 5 litre mayonnaise tubs for a surround sound experience whether your´re at home or in the kayak

"Two 5 litre mayonnaise tubs" suggests that you are in a catering business. I wouldn't know where to get a single one from. But it reminded me of a bucket with removed bottom that you can use to look into water. Now the question is how to transport this most sophisticated device in a kayak? Put it on my head?

Here are a few suggestions for anyone that needs them.
If you've just bought a new phone ( especially Chinese ) or live in the UK or EU definitely check to see if you are being tracked either by your own network ( which in most cases is acceptable if not in a communist country ) or an unidentified source if your phone starts acting abnormally.
I hate closed source iPhones... but these codes basically work for all new Android versions.
Using the call dial feature... the message will pop up after each one is analyzed. Do this at random every 2-3 months.
*#21# To see if calls, messages, and other data are being diverted.
*#62# To see where calls, messages, and data are being redirected.
##002# To switch off redirecting...especially in roaming mode.
*#06# IMEI number if needed.
Special codes exist that allow someone to track your location and also to determine whether someone is following you. For this, you need the utility net monitor.
Type in one of the following codes:
For Android: *#*#4636#*#* or *#*#197328640#*#*
* If you get your own provider you are locked to your own system network.
* If not... follow instructions for each one of these after the pop-up.
Step 1. Go to the section called UMTS Cell Environment, then UMTS RR info, and write down all the numbers under Cell ID. These numbers are the basic stations located nearby. Your phone will connect by default to the one that emits the best signal.
Step 2. Go back to the main menu, and click on the MM info tab, then on Serving PLMN. Write down the numbers under the Local Area Code (LAC).
Step 3. With the help of these two numbers and an ordinary website (the fourth tab to the left), you can determine the location on the map of the basic station that your phone is connected to.
The ones to be suspicious of are mobile basic stations - this could be a truck or small bus with a large antenna. These kinds of vehicles are used at rock festivals and in places where Internet coverage is poor. If there's one of them nearby, seemingly without any logical reason, it's just possible that someone is engaged in spying. It can also be a tracking unit or vehicle outside your coffee shop or similar.
If your phone has been tapped by a security agency, the chances are you won't even notice.
Only your cell phone operator should ever offer you tracking services, and they should only turn them on with your explicit agreement. Websites and applications that offer to find out the location of other people are almost certainly acting with criminal intent. Be careful!
Don't install unknown Apps and never keep your GPS on all day. You can also disable all APPS you don't use... especially if you have no data plan or simply use the phone for calls and texting.
You don't even need a GMAIL account... download APKPure with your browser on WiFi and pick the installer. They have almost all the APPS you may need with an updater. Also, use Brave browser setting all security options without using Google. Instead of Google Maps, you can use HERE WeGo Maps which can be used offline also using guide downloadable maps for your own area through open GPS.
If you're an extremist you can also root your Android, add new ROMS, radios, and remove all junk by adding firewalls. BUT, IT CAN BRICK THE PHONE IF NOT DONE PROPERLY AND VOID THE WARRANTY. SO GET THE KNOWLEDGE FIRST. Try it first on an old unused phone and read everything on the following site or get assistance from them:
I would have to do a full physical first to determine if you are paranoid or not and only if you also include a dinner with selected fine wines.
The first four codes are very easy to run randomly ... the rest is common sense. I do more for my friends and they are all free of issues. Whether people use my suggestions or not is up to them... in today's age technology can be a problem or a lack of knowledge.
