Aruena: Why would you if you still find this place entertaining?

However, I did notice that a lot of old members had left.

I guess forums aren't popular any more. People need to write, need to know how to express their opinions and thoughts and most social media nowadays are based on likes, gifs, pictures and videos. Just: click, like, scroll, click, like, scroll...

Even on forums - most posts are like that. On another forum I was a member of instead of writing their own opinion with their own words, people would just post a link of someone's lecture on YouTube or some blog or a similar site. So instead of talking to a person, they expected you to watch and read some other people's thoughts. That's not communication.

The art of communication is fading away...

lillipution: At one time the Irish forums were buzzing, Just like the internationals,
both have died , so is it time now to try to revive them both .
Is it too much to ask if people could be nice to each other, and maintain interesting discussions ,
respect other peoples views and opinions, that would be great
Didn't work in the past Anna and will never be working on here. dunno

rohaan: Hello there— it’s not just the Irish forums, love..the pool seems a bit shallow of late. So, what can we do? I can only go on about the kitten so long: Tomcat can only brag about so many toad- in- the-hole breakfasts...I wonder if we could do a sort of “ group” here—- who are ye, where’d you come from, where ya goin’, etc...peace.....

Hello,, i know, it's true, most subjects have been discussed.
i suppose if the people that just want to be nasty, didn't get the attention they seek, that might be
a start, dunno

"Give a man a mask, and he will reveal his true face."

anonymity makes people more comfortable with being aggressive.

I don't miss serious discussions. I've already had my share of them - on various forums, Facebook groups and pages, even Reddit at one period of time. I got a little tired of discussing, But, whatever I discussed and whomever I talked to, no matter how different our ideas were - I could have a nice conversation as long as people behaved in a polite and civilized manner. I could get along with anyone as long as the person didn't start with personal attacks. That rarely happened, but when it did - the discussion was over.

What I miss the most is - having fun with people online, chatting, joking in some harmless manner, simply having a laugh. We can have a laugh on the internet nowadays, but that's some sort of a solitary laugh. You watch a funny video or meme or gif and - you laugh. But, where are the others? Laughing all by myself is not so much fun for me as having fun with others.

Such relaxed and enjoyable virtual places became very rare. People are too serious, too easily get offended, always on the edge, always feeling threatened and in some "defending mode". Jokes are almost exclusively mockery and putting down others. There are always excuses: "Life is hard", "I have personal problems", "The situation in society is so difficult, that I cannot laugh", etc., but - life was always hard, we used to have personal problems before, too and I personally experienced far worse and harder times than this. Yet people laughed, had fun, joked...

Even personal messages aren't fun any more. Men used to be much more interesting. They would put an effort. Now they write to complain about their life, to ask for compassion and understanding, to share their worries, to discuss COVID, politics, current affairs and to expect from you to entertain them. I tried for a while, then lost interest.

It is what it is, I guess... dunno

We should be happy to have an occasional laugh here and there until it lasts. wine

The way I see it is.. If you don't like the topic of a thread, don't participate in it...
If someone is rude to you, just ignore or report them if you think it warrants that..

Maybe create you're own threads and stop waiting for the "Nice People to return", we all like interesting subjects I'm sure.. wave

In the meantime, try and have some fun, here's a GIF of a cute dancing dog..handshake

You nailed it on the head, this is exactly what i was talking about, but you explained it better.
I think it has quietened down a bit now since the USA election is over, it is usually politics and religion
that causes the overheated discussions and eventually insultspeace

I have created a good number of serious discussion threads...but the trolling goons...disrupt them the majority of the time and spread hate

Many don't answer the questions I ask...some don't bother to read the subjects properly and post ignorant comments

To get positive and productive discussion...It about people reading and understanding...what the thread subject is about and having the intellect to discuss the subject

Things can be learned from serious discussion threads and people can find many factual info on my threads

The truth is not always easy to face...for a good number of people and perhaps tough love is needed..cause sugar coating too much...won't have any impact on people and won't get them to think about things...that are important

Would be good to see you post regular on my threads...cause I like seeing your gorgeous face and I like the effort you put into your posts
