Based on a one dimensional drawing of an up or down thumb, that you just click one I’d say it is more about others just winding users up. Second guessing who it is. Does it really matter who? For all any user knows that person clicking in the up or down thumb could be a right laugh in real life, they could be any type of personality. They could be dangerous and being duped by other members. List is endless so at the end of the day, personally speaking don’t get wound up about it, but can imagine and see how it works for others, can be intimidating and seen as bullying behaviour.777
Disagreeing here, at times is worse than mount etna erupting. So what if people use the option?
I can imagine in years to come there will be degree courses and research papers done on thumbs up and thumbs down.

In this world people agree or disagree with each other. No two viewpoint are the same.777
Using the thumps up or down in this manner is appropriate.
Some people don't like another for whatever they wrote on this website. They are incapable of ignoring (don't read what the person wrote), so they use thumbs down to disagree with whatever that person writes.
Being anonymous with the thumbs up and down you will never know which category you are in.
Don't forget the ones with mental illness. They maybe all over the place depends on the type of day.
Enjoy the blogs/forums, write what's on your mind and ignore the thumb ups and downs.

my advice is to just ignore any of the "thumbs" up or down----it's rather sophomoric, anyway, to use them and/or be influenced by them. Just say what you have to say, mean it, try to be able to stand by it, and ignore those silly little emoticons. (you can't do anything about them, anyway. They're a non-issue)

Here it only looks bad and the ones who do like you may say nothing cos thumbing is not their thing anyway, so basically back to square one. There is only one solution and that is to ask cs to get rid of it as it's only negative. What good to thumbs do? Childish at best.

The first few times I got a thumbs down I did go back and reread my post. I did not see anything I wanted to change. I hardly even notice them now 
and the reason for me not noticing them is for the things listed in above post. Some are meant personal, some are just because the person disagreed with what was being said and some are I think meant just in jest. It was a learning lesson for me in life about that. I kinda think of it this way....A few Fridays ago, I was driving home from work. Friday afternoon traffic is the worse...There was a truck a few cars in front of me that kept sticking his arm out and making hand gestures. He was driving very slow..which really didn’t matter because traffic was backed up and moving very slow.
The road finally became 2 lanes, and he kept moving slow....cars were passing him and he kept making hand gestures at them. When I passed him, he shot me a bird...going 20 in a 45 MPH zone. I just rolled down my window and smiled at him....And, I got home much quicker passing him...and I had a good chuckle over it too...
