I totally agree. This is a Social Media Site. Who cares anyway? If these people that make these multiple threads up day by day, spend some time doing something constructive, like keeping away from CS for a day then they may feel better

The likes and dislikes are quite often nothing to do with the content of the post they're reacting to.
The anonymity aspect of the thumbs in general and the thumbs down in particular is clearly quite divisive, it serves no positive function imo.

Dunno. But the first time I've noticed "thumbs" was when somebody created a thread about it a few years ago. If not for that, I still would be unaware of the feature. 777

Interesting comments regarding the "thumbs", and thank you to all who have recognized the negativity. I'm really doing well not taking it personally--and, awhile ago, a very nice (but sadly, ill) lady member on here was getting "thumbs down" for virtually every post she commented on, and her outlook was bright, optimistic, and encouraging to everyone, in spite of her own sorrows. Mean people suck. Period. A good adage, coined by Dr. Seuss:

I get where you're going with this, but there are some very nice, but frail people who are hurt by this completely unfair insulting--the "downer" gets to be mean anonymously. That's cowardice.Why does it bother you?

Here it only looks bad and the ones who do like you may say nothing cos thumbing is not their thing anyway, so basically back to square one. There is only one solution and that is to ask cs to get rid of it as it's only negative. What good to thumbs do? Childish at best.
