Wow...
I just walked through a portal.

I didn't think I'd ever see any Ham references here.
Funny little world.
Takes me back to when my Pappa & I sat together & listened.

I do get on Echolink on occasion, but seldom. Maybe I had better openit up & see if you are on.

When 6m opens here in the SW (soon I hope), I will be on 50.125. I run an Alinco DX-70 w/ a Ringo vertical and a homebrew 6 element beam. Made it from old TV antenna's. Currentl it is on a 5 ft. tri-pod on the roof but the rotator is broke. Have another one but need to go to a friends and pick up a controller he has.

Also, I just picked up an 11 element 2m beam. I have a Kenwood TS-700s all mode 2m rig I want to fire up. The SUV has an Alinco 146/440 and a Radio Shack HTX-10 all mode. Still looking for a 6m mobile.

Go to QRZ.com and follow the link to the practice tests. Getting your ticket these days is very simple. I(f you really get interested, I will find a club in your area that gives the exams. 30 questions, multiple choice, simple.

Mail me if you have any interest.

Well Dougie my friend it is never to late.

When I was about 15 (centuries ago) the kid across the street was out stringing a wire from his house to a tree. I went over to what he was doing. He said he had just received his "ham" ticket in the mailconfused I said what is a "ham" ticket?

Inside we went, I watched and listened as he sent code on a little homebrew transmitter and listened to his Hallicrafters receiver. All in awe. Well, life happens, joined the Army, jumped oput of perfectly good airplanes, married, diverced, race cars, career, women devil crying , etc.....

I got kicked into retirement in 97, moved to Sun (Sin) City, AZ in 99. They guy behind me was a ham (still is) W7VPL. I told him my story, that old buzzard grabbed ahold me and dind't let go until I got my ticket. And yes, I also went the "Children's Band" for a period of time.

It is NEVER to late to do ANYTHING...................
