An earlier thread asked that this person be exempted from polls. "Me thinks that thou dost protest too much". Shakespeare's saying for , pay attention to me. (Forgive me if I'm wrong)
As for being one's self on site, we do at times extend ourselves beyond what we'd do in person. But with enough thoughts and responses posted, we become an open book to those who pay attention. There are a few people here that I have never met in person, yet I trust them completely. Naive ? No. How many people have you met in person, maybe have known for many years, that have betrayed you ? There are some here who do play games, but they are the minority and don't last long.
Never before in our recent history could we communicate in an instant with the world. If someone in Tierra del Fuego googles gentlepaws, my thoughts will be known to them.
A terrifying trade-off. With this world-wide living room comes a feeling of; too much, too fast, too easy. But is it any different from real life, too much, too fast, too easy ? 12 years ago, I could not have asked this question, and get a response from the world. The Global Village has Arrived.
Cool post! I have too look at it that whe I'm online, I really don't hold back. That is, what you see here is what you just might get. All cannot be revealed on lin or on the phone. Reality does exist on here. It's all relative....
As you said it does resemble'real life' in that there are no guarantees in how one will be treated in either sphere. People can be false anywhere they please, true easier online, but that's their choice. I'm glad to have the chance to meet people from around the world and learn, share, laugh and cry with them.I have made many true friends online as well as met many fakes.Luckily the fakes always end up giving themselves away. As for honesty,I see no reason to be anyone other than myself,be it online or in person.Iam me,no more,no less.
I welcome a respite from "real" life sometimes. Then again, given the caliber of folks I have had the good fortune of corresponding with, real life sometimes seems to pale in comparison. Remember my location - what is real anyway?
My world is a little smaller. There are a few I trust implicitly, and Leo, my friend, it's not naive.
Good one for sure gentlepaws - a true philosopher speaks, er, types!
Personally, I find it easier to be myself online. The fear of rejection or ridicule isn't as great. I've only been here for a couple of months, but I consider you all my friends and trust you with my thoughts and feelings. But, on the flip side, it is frightening to think how far that information travels to all corners of the globe. Not only a privelege, but a great responsibility!
Hey Leo; good evening to you and all; it doesn't terrify me; just the opposite...I find very little difference between cyber life and the rest of life; the good the bad and the ugly all exist in living technicolor; and since so many of my family and friends live far away from me, the physical absence is a fact of my life...meanwhile, I learn, love and laugh in this part of ly life as I do in all parts of my life...love your post Leo
you could paint a leopard all white, but eventually the spots will start appearing, that's why honesty is the best policy, not every body has to accept us or agree with us, so why bs one another?
I am my real self here and in real. I do not intend to have dual lives. I have had the oppurtunity to know few people here whom i call friends and they know the amt. of faith i keep in them. My world is small that way. And i hope thy wont let me down.
Its true though with a little attention paid its easy to make out the true person.
Hello to all you above, what a neat bunch of people you are everyone of you, I also have only been here a couple of months but it has been a blast, I am me. I wouldnt know how to be anyone else, and from what I have seen of the rest of you I think you are are I have had some people e mail me with some pretty weird stuff, but mostly just meeting people and having fun

like in real life
some people decided to be honest others to be pretenders
but to our advantage, it is easier to spot the pretenders, as theit post change acording to the convinience of the thread
if we take the time we can realize that withing only seconds thay have post to oposite statements, both as being the truth
