I've have read and heard how being on the internet affords us all this freedom. the ability without real repercussion to be "totally" honest of ones inner most emotions and thoughts. Sounds Great dont it?

But in essence are we not portraying a false image to others?

Some so outspoken on every thread and issue always involved with most every thread, initiating threads, yetin RL they aremost subdued, quiet,withdrawn....I suppose the opposite scenario couild be consider misrepresenting oneself.

Are we inadvertentily portraying a less than honest image to others ?

I'm much more at home and courageous with written words than I am with spoken words. I think people who've spoken with me on the phone are probably surprised at how quiet and reserved I am in RL.

Well observed!

I suppose the e-world allows for the more timid to be more expressive while able to feel a lil more 'protected'. I think this is a positive.

However, as you say, it can and does lead to highly inaccurate personality projection in many instances...meet many of the folks we may disagree with on these forums, and I reckon we'd actually get on rather well, because the bottom line is - this is a very limited means of communicaton.

On the other hand, I recently had the pleasure of meeting a couple of members of CS who seemed unable to seperate e-reality from actual reality, with one taking great offence because I couldn't recognize her in real life from her pictures here.

Oh well...laugh

Yeah, I think it can portray a false image.

I say more and am more bubbly in real life because my mouth moves faster in verbal real life than what my fingers do on here.

So, I probably come across as really quiet, mouselike and meek on here with not much to say innocent

cool

I think I'm pretty much the same... I talk when I have something to say both places, sometimes when I should just shut up. The biggest difference is that I'm really affectionate with people in RL, it's easier for me to throw my arms around a friend and give them a big hug then it is for me to say it! hug

Maybe its self-confidence? Despite my seemingly extrovert character, I have many that will vouch for my being much more withdrawn in RL....
