jlb684: Interesting as always, Detente. Why am I proud to be an American? I'm actually glad that you gave me something to really think about. OK...for me, there are the freedoms that we enjoy as a matter of course, stemming from our Constitution and our Bill of Rights therein; the entrepeneurial spirit and possibilities; the melting pot culture, blending nationalities and religions and ethnicities; the very foundation and principles upon which our nation was built. On a smaller, more personal level, here are a few things that I love about my homeland... Cars pulling over and stopping on the side of a road as a funeral procession passes, as a sign of respect for the one who died and for those that are grieving. Backyard summer barbecues, with great big slabs of baby-back ribs and thick, juicy steaks. The beauty of the country...the Grand Canyon, the sunsets in Sedona, Arizona, the mountains of Colorado, the California redwoods, the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps (New York), the rustic seashore of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, the cherry trees in bloom in the spring along the Potomac River, the palm trees of Miami or Hawaii, the glaciers of Alaska. The renewed pride and support of our military troops (whether one supports the war or not). The artistic achievements enjoyed throughout the world...films, literature, music, even television shows.
These are just a few of the things that I love and that give me a source of pride. Yes, there are negatives; we all know this. But thanks for the chance to mention a few of the positives.
Detente: ...please tell us what you admire about your country...what fills you with pride in being American.
Comparisons with other countries are not really neccessary...and let's keep it a positive and fanatic free zone.
There's a perception that there's blatant America bashing...so maybe this thread can redress the ballance a little.
I didn't help establish this country. I didn't fight in any war for this country. Therefore, I am not proud to be an American. However, I certainly feel lucky to be an American.

I've lived somewhere cold all of my life!
Driven all over Canada and the US and one trip to Hawaii. Hoping to do more travelling in the future though. This year I'm moving. Somewhere a little warmer and more scenic, southern British Columbia, Canada. Won't have any money for holidays anytime soon but it's a great place so I don't mind as much. Maybe I'll get visitors!
i honestly and sincerely hope this helped your image here at CS and your self image
it was your choice tho i have opinion on it
i really dont care about your assessment of me or the way i am characterized except to point out that this i found to be especially rude and unnecessary.
seems since i posted info in response to your post about Anthony whaaatever-im some kind of jerk?
i spose you should be allowed to trounce around saying whatever you like because you are sometimes humorous? well i didnt get the memo-
yeah thats sarcasm
any woman who thot youre behavior here is attractive...
having a feeling or not having a feeling doesnt make me on an ego trip it just means i dont understand- but i felt ok sharing what i do feel...?
now if i had been saying stuff like you are- i can see that i might be seen as ego centered but i only talked about me..? i made no specific attempt to be spiritual nor anything else. its MY posting to a thread that had nothing to do with anyone else-youre reaction is your stuff and you know what you can do with it. (since youve removed your head from there must be plenty of room now)
no hard feelings? puuuhlease-you behaved very rudely repeatedly why would there be any hard feelings?
youre of no interest to me if i wasnt concerned about being banned id say more but ill take my turn acting like a grown up i guess- i always need more practice at that.
id also ike to post here my gratitude to the numerous people who one more time sent letters to me about how awful this CS member behaved but said zero in 'public'

maybe if i had longer hair or was younger...
well I did not mail you, but I will say in public that yes it was rude. Whatever your thoughts and feelings are, you are entitled to voice them and not to be ridiculed for doing so. It would seem that this is normal behavior for some people. It would seem that it is not what is being said but who is saying it.
The manner in which I expressed my honest opinion was less than tactful.
I want to say that I was joking, but I was only half joking. In the end, it came out way more rude than it did clever, and for that I am sincerely sorry.
I really, truly, do not hold any personal grudge against you, or your beliefs.
