Can change my oil, or my tires... once even bypassed a heater core on my grandmothers car in the middle of bummed fuct egypt on a 800 mile road trip...
I love to garden, always plant a veggie garden in the spring, my family loves fresh veggies... SALSA her I come!! I have WAY too many house plants... Have to give away about 10-20 each fall cause I have no where to put them all!!
I can take almost anything apart and put it back together... sometimes i can fix it!! Have fixed vaccume cleaners- A LOT, my son spilled juice in my portable dvd player... a thousand screws later and I had it fixed!
Can take most any radio out of a car and put a cd player in... with exception of a ford taurus... they are a very weird shape!!
Anything to do with cleaning I think any single person can do- or should be able to do!!
I so far can raise two children with no help ever from their fathers... not one day ever... but whats thay saying screw me once shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me... yeah... oops...
Um I am a half assed vet with all the animals I have had and cared for... Once rescued a little kitten from a BIG dog, he had torn his belly open, took him to the vet, and they sent him back with me and said to pour antibacterial stuff in the wound- they provided the stuff- but didnt stitch or anything, so i had to keep that kitten with me 24/7 for a few weeks... My dog once brought home 4 baby bunnies, and had to care for them until they got old enough to set loose... this list goes on and on...
I can successfully set up a fish tank- w/o killing the fish... now that is have killed some when I first started setting them up!!
I can sew with or with out my sewing machine.
I can crochet, my great grandmother taught me before she passed away in 99...
I can do push ups with my feet balanced up on an exercise ball... that sucks by the way, but my physical therapist is making me do it now... dont know how many times I fell before i got it down!!
I can camp like a champ!! Hunt down firewood, build a proper fire, set up a tent, fish, cook over the fire... all that good stuff!!
I can hike for about 5-10 miles- depending on if I have my kids, and which I am carying at the half way point, they never make it all the way!! Just hope I am carrying my 40 pound daughter instead of my 60 pound son!!
I can shoot a pistol with fairly good accuracy... look out, i did say fairly good!! Shotgun/rifle, I can shoot some of them, but cant hit what I am aiming for normally!! But am getting better at that!! My dad takes me to the shooting range on occasion... when i can get a sitter cause i dont like my kids to even see real guns!!
I can cook just about anything as long as I have a recipe, especially if it is baking!!
I can watch TV and play on CS all day and night long!!!
Ummm... I am sure there is more, but this list is getting rediculously long, so I will stop now...
One thing I cant do that I wish I could... SPELL!!
kidatheart: I've yet to try anything that I couldn't do. Most I've become fairly proficient at too. I haven't tried knitting....yet. I thought I'd save that for old age.
Its a good past time for being pregnant and on bed rest!! And I have to agree with being able to do just about anything I have tried to do!! Just have to set your mind to it!!
Absoloutely Handy in any subjects you can think of! Specially in cooking and doing handyman jobs......Give it to me and I repair it almost no matter we are talking a bout!
Apart from bricks,I did lots of demolition and excavation.MY BIGGEST accomplishment was in 2006 when we built a shoe store and oil leaked in the basement and contaminated the floor and we were ordered by the city to excavate up to two feet to make sure the oil was removed.I jacked the cement which was about 8 inches, and with a pick,I dug and containered through two feet of dirt and rock to make sure all the oil was removed. Two weeks later,I CARRIED 400 BLOCKS,2 at a time down to the basement,(after they repaved the floor with cement)to build a wall to support the main floor because it the main floor was unstable. I'll never forget that year........

i like to think im fairly handy if it is in a house i can fix it if it involves a car i can fix it. I have had a fairly varried life was a state cert. mech. and a lead maint. man at a 1700 unit complex. now I wonder the highways and byways of this great nation.... less stress.
Also,I was trained by at the time,a 73 year old italian mason,so I was trained old school, and the guy taught me so much. When I mean old school,I MEAN no mortar mixer, when we built a car wash in 2004,which took the whole summer to build,we mixed cement by hand in the pan. When we built a 200 block firewall on the roof of the carwash,we had no forklift, and I carried 70 pound sand and cement bags on one shoulder while climbing the ladder with my other hand.
dcj22: How handy are you? Do you do Woodwork? Write? Cook? Sew? Crochet or Knit? Garden? Landscaping?
What kind of home things do you enjoy doing or excel at doing?Personally, I:
Sew - Fair at it. Never felt up to par because my mom was so good. Maybe I'll get better since she isn't here anymore. Hopefully, I'll use her expertise to inspire me to do better.
Write - But only for me.
Crochet - I taught myself. Though I hate knitting. I've taught myself enough to teach my daughter to start.
Cook - I'm not bad in this department, when I want to. I do enjoy baking.Tell us about you. Details and examples are good.
I love cleaning up tough challenges that everyone else hates. I have gained a reputation as having people request me to clean their school buses.
I love writing poetry.- Picked up a pen one day in the Phillipines and things have not been the same.
I love doing landscaping and cleaning up the nastiest funkiest bushes and the worst lawns. My neighbors say they always could use my help and I help them whenever I can.
the military says the toughest things should never be looked down on just conquered. That is what makes me go with this stuff.
Can do all the usual household things, cook, clean, knit, sew, lay bricks, clean drains, repair, decorate, diy stuff.
EMPLOYED AS: a caterer, tiler on construction sites, decorator, interior designer, soft furnishings (own company dealing with hotels, hospitals and airports, retirement homes etc),been dresmaking since I was 9 yrs old, arts and crafts teacher, house mother to 90 kids, foster mother, hospital admin, shop manager, artist, sculptor, writer, journalist, poet, therapist, cheesemaker, chief buyer for an engineering company, caregiver in nursing homes, secretary, waitress, receptionist, telephonist, fashion designer and St John's Ambulance Certification, among others...
