Btw, scientists have found a "god-gene", so apparently it's in our DNA to believe in a god. I'll explain atheists by saying we were also granted free will, and they're using theirs. Just because it's in our DNA still doesn't mean we have to believe.
If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it fall does it still make a sound. Of course it does because it has happened it is not subjective lol. It is a real occurrence whether someone witnessed it our not lol.Not this nonsense again. The thread does not make sense. What do you mean on which we measure our pain? Do you mean believe in a higher power as a means of an emotional crutch? Not everyone that believes in a higher power does so to have a crutch. Some humans actually just believe. God is not just a concept to those who have faith that is not only exists but is actively participating in the universe that He created. As for me I don't know if He exists. I think something does exist as the universe did not originate from a void. An active God not sure about that if so where the hell is He. Oh that right he is having a margarita right down the street from me at a little Mexican restaurant. He has taken to drinking these days.
crotalus_p: If I recall correctly there is a lot of controversy around that , I don’t have time now but I will research it later and give it a separate thread
That's cool...I'd be interested to see what you find. I'm glad that there are some who like to research things. I do too...just don't have the time to research all that I'd like to research.

Well, that "god gene" doesn't actually have anything directly to do with believing in god, only with the mental capacity to achieve a so-called ’self-transcendence’.
In the physicalist view, the entire human life is explained by genes, chemicals, natural selection, and the environment. Dean Hamer, a geneticist of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, claims to have found the genetic explanation for leaning towards a belief in a supernatural deity, the "god gene" known as VMAT2, which allows for an evolutionary explanation of faith.
In his book ‘The God Gene’, Dean Hamer attempts to explain religion and spirituality in purely physical terms. He begins his book with an illustration drawn from Buddhist spirituality, and redefines faith as ‘self-transcendence’ which provides a numerical measure of people's capacity to reach out beyond themselves - to see everything in the world as part of one great totality. If one were to describe it in a single word, it might be 'at-one-ness'.
Hamer distinguishes ‘spirituality’ from ‘religion’. Spirituality is tied to his notion of self-transcendence while religion is far more concrete, rational, and particular. The ‘self-transcendence scale’ tries to separate one's spirituality from one's particular religious beliefs by eschewing questions about belief in a particular god, frequency of prayer, or orthodox religious doctrines or practices. Even individuals who dislike all forms of organised religion may have a strong spiritual capacity and score high on the ‘self-transcendent scale’.
It seems to me that more research is needed before all this can be called a viable theory, nevertheless it represents an interesting view.
Anyhow, one thing is for sure: god is nothing but a man-made concept !
crotalus_p: I wouldn’t mind if he came up with a decent point to debate/argue but it just seems like he’s stirring it
Why is it young man you always do and want to,but even out in thread "argue".He may not make sense but at least unlike you he is not here to argue. You have such a problem with people having beliefs.Trying to cut them down for their opinion all the time.Do you need to get a life where you can let out this chip and get it off your shoulder? your shoulder, you keep daring people to knock off?Go ahead now and reply I won't be here to read it just so yo know.I am not here to argue. To each his/her own.
