Hugz_n_Kissez: Well this is it...Normally we're in the capacity as peace keepers or remain neutral...which gave us a false sense of security....sooooo...This time we're not....and I think they still have the same false sense of security...I mean if they didn't our military would be a little better prepared...which they aren't...at least in terms of combat etc because they have been Peace Keepers for soooooo long!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with that, I thought we were just doing peace keeping when we first went over there, but that is not how they thought of us.

When my Dad was in the army and we were in Germany they used to have pretend wars, but now we are in a real one.

I think people thought they were doing Peace Keeping...because they wouldn't even admit that we had troops over there at first...I don't think that's the capacity they are acting under though...I could be wrong...but I'm sure that's why we're being targeted now!!!!!!!!!!

Yep...now it's getting a little scary for my liking too.....

Hugz_n_Kissez: Well it's not the Afghani people though...it's the Taliban...and I agree with the part about drugs...and in return they are likely getting arms or just using it to fund their regime....and the sole purpose of us being there to begin with was the hunt for Osama Bin Laden...Now it's changed into a fight with the Taliban....but who knows why we're really there...It's not the government is really upfront about it anyway!!!!!!!!!

You mean the US government is up front? Do you remember when we didn't go into Iraq with the Americans, our biggest trading partner, cane down on us! They chastised and punished us via trade. They were a lot more vocal about the France because they couldn't;t hurt them with trade so they ridiculed them. We were ridiculed too, to a point where some Americans were picking fights with Canadians in the States. Don't forget the Taliban are Afghan people and have a right to be there just like Catholics, Christians, Jews and others have a right to be in their own country. How would you handle Afghans coming over here declaring war against your religious group? The people in the sovereign country should settle it amongst themselves. If we really care about people instead of oil lets go to Africa and save the innocent over there. The Taliban is brutal, they fought the Russians the same way and we gave them the weapons. Now ask yourself why ... because it was already decided that at the right time we would move in for the oil and other stuff, Bin Laden is not to be harmed by anyone ... he would become a martyr and all Islam or most would be bitterly against us and it's hard to fight armies willing to die and not wearing uniforms to shoot at and they don't just "don't like us" they "hate us with a passion they would die for"! If you really want to think out of the box, the Taliban is being used by OTHER powers to keep the war going and the profits flowing ... even Pakistan is being paid to hunt Taliban and Bin Laden! Why kill the goose that lays the golden eggs! Can you imagine ...

No...currently..I don't believe any government is upfront....oh and I have to correct some of my errors in what I posted...I was reading up a bit and apparently we have purchased 200 million dollars worth of equipment like helicopters and such for over there...yes we are also engaged in combat and have been I think since almost the beginning but we also just committed another 1000 troops to go over there this year and they have some heavy operations over there taking over Talibany and Alqueda strong holds...also we were suppose to pull out in 2003 and we are now committed until 2011!!!!!!!!!

Not being of any of the two nationalities involved int his discussion I may be untitled to comment......bet....

do you guys remeber Korea?

or Viet Nam?

Sounds like the same story all over again with Afghanistan.....

there always seems to be a reason for the politicians to justify sending in the troops.....

and at the end....it is always the individuals who carry the consequences.

How wise is that?

dunno

Everyone is entitled to comment on my threads...I hold the view that we are all interrelated by world politics and I can criticism of Canada...because I am one of the worst criticizers of it myself....because I am realistic and see the things they do wrong....wave

Yes in fact I did compare this war to Vietnam and have more than once...to me it's unwinnable and although I support our troops...I don't support them being killed for no good reason....Now saying that I also know terrorism exists and is alive and well...BUT if we weren't there then I suppose they would just sort out their own problems....and the west wouldn't be targetted because we would leave them to sort out their own business.....hug teddybear hug lips

Hugz_n_Kissez: Well I fully support guys like your son....and I think it is a form of brainwashing because they think they are going there for good reasons....the reasons they are being told...when in reality it is most likely about something altogether different...which isn't fair to the men and women who believe in what they are fighting for!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly.

Sorry to hear it might hit your land, too. And yet, everyone wants us to pull our troops and make peace...and it's not possible to make peace with extremists. I agree with Cardsfan, I think we're going to enter WWIII...God help us all.

this was posted in august

threats are always imminent in todays world

i remember when everyone was up in arms because canadian immigration policies were thought by the US to be too loose
and caused increased danger for the US

some areas in canada are majority Somalian and there was a big hubub

its all fear, i feel we are all pretty powerless-thats what terrorism is-
the unexpected, the shock factor- the feeling of helplessness

its always a possibility

Some people desperately need some form of entertainment.
I'm convinced that if we opened a few comedy clubs in Baghdad and Kabul and convinced those illiterate idiots of Al-Qaida that their leaders are laughing to a choke every time one of their gullible suicide attackers blows himself/herself to smithereens because 70 virgins are awaiting their expected arrival in hell- sorry- heaven, I'm sure we'd make great headway into pacifying them.
More proof that idle hands are the devil's playground.
