jbibiza: I keep hearing over and over that having a successful relationship takes lots of hard work... I look back over the times I have been in love and I don´t remember "hard work" being part of the equation.
Does having a long term friendship take a lot of hard work? Shouldn´t your partner in life also be your best friend?
Maybe people who find relationships to be hard work, are in the relationship for the wrong reasons, or with the wrong person?

I think that people refer to the give and take that it takes to make a long-term relationship work as "hard work". I agree that with the right person it shouldn't seem like it's hard work, though. It's just part of living with another human being!

I agree with you, I do not think it is hard work, but humans make one hard work...
I do not find my close friendships hard work at all, I could not be honest about what I was truly feeling in my last relation ship, fear, prevented that and I allowed that to stand in my way...

I don´t think people have a problem with the give and take it takes to keep a friend or to share a house or apt with someone... it would seem to me that it would be even easier with a life partner, someone you love enough to want to see happy...

Well, just speaking from my own experience - even with a bad gallbladder that made me deathly ill several times and being flat broke a couple of times besides - the past 18 months have been the easiest ones of my life.

Oh, I was JB, I was a very fearful person, I covered it up well...
I never knew when to ask for support, I was falling apart and he never recognised it, all to do with when my children were taken from the country by my ex husband, I hid the pain and in the end, I fell apart and it was too much for him to handle...
We are still talking, just, as we have a business together, I have apologised, but the hurt was too much for him, although he has mentioned a couple of times that he wants to have dinner when I return to the UK at the end of this month...
It is a long, dull story, but, yes, fear stood in my way. I allowed that and I will never allow it again...

It´s good when you can look back and recognize the mistakes made... so many people don´t and wind up in the same self destructive circle over and over again.
