OK, you need to check if Guardian does copyright their stuff in France, but there is another issue with France.
In Art. L121-1 the circumstances of the Moral rights are explained.
They protect ANYONE and from ANYWHERE from infringements on their artistic works on French soil. In other words, if there is a clear understanding of who the original creator is, France will protect him, without the need of registering any rights with the copyrights offices there.
No wonder it is the country of the painters!
The act includes the “droit au respect de l'intégrité de l'œuvre“ and prohibits alteration of the original work without explicit agreement with the original creator.
I say you are better of contacting the artist of the original and ask if you could use his original design as a source of inspiration, when you are done, send him a copy and get a dated "ok" back from him before you go ahead.

was busy trying to set up a home network for my girls (their mum is away at mom).
tried to read some postings in where's evrybody thread and thought i saw a 'war' looming so stopped reading. i hope the air is cleared and everybody is on friendly terms again.
lago is missing again . . .playing games or painting.
sometimes i stay in the sidelines cause the wit is too much for me.
anyhow soon i'll take my beauty ZZZs.
