wixomwizard: That is a very good question that I think is very mis-understood by most people. I believe there are 2 answers. The number 1 and foremost answer, the one God intended us to practice toward Him and to each other is....the fear of doing anything that would displease Him or a loved one, out of love for Him and them. The number 2 answer is the one most people accept as the number 1. Fear of pissing Him off because of His mighty power and His ability to destroy that which He created.

So we think about not stealing the last cookie from the cookie jar because we know in our hearts that it is the wrong thing to do and that we should probably save it for someone else but we for damn sure don't steal it for fear of mom backhanding us. sigh

Fear in my opinion ceases to exist when dwelling in the presence of GOD. This is because fear is a creation of our mind.

___________________________________________________________

... take up your cross....

to the early Christian hardly a quaint metaphor for laying down your burdens..

one of the most cruel devices ever constructed by men for torturing the flesh. imagine looking upon your friends, and family.
carrying their cross to their demise. i suspect fear was quite real.

this was the chosen way for the Lamb to be slaughtered.

see foxes book of martyrs.

strength was for those that knew that when the flesh was destroyed.
the spirit would live.

fear is not a four letter word..
fear teaches, reveals, triggers responses, opens insights.

i hike often alone in the wild, i have a bit of fear of what could happen.
that is responsible, and helps to keep me safe.

but still i hike.. the reward is too great to be thwarted by fear

I agree with much of what you say and that flesh is temporal and spirit eternal. Fear is often more than not. False Evidence Appearing Real. The depth of any teachings can be found from within and if Fear triggers or reveals or is sometimes useful in certain situations for some then that is great. It is one of many ways to feel the presence within.

We must first understand each layer as it presents itself and discard it. This continues until we find that which connects all. That is common truth that is uncommon for many, and is that which ultimately dwells within.

We have eyes to see the presence but we do not really see, we have ears to listen but do not really listen, we have senses to feel but we do not really feel. The veil of illusion of our consciousness often hides that we have senses other than the physical, however once we use the muscle of these other inner senses, this will strengthen our ability to use them more often.

When our inner muscles (so to speak) are strengthened we acquire the ability or part thereof... to discern truth in its purist form, this purist form being the common thread that runs through all religions, philosophies, doctrines and beliefs. However we need to use those inner muscles first. Not just the outer ones. Fear then transforms in to an inner peace.

mddljoe: the wisdom part kicks in when,

the spirit begins to lead the flesh.

the inclination usually is to do the reverse.

I would agree with this

the spirit is eternal and is the pure wisdom energy that is the true self which dwells deep inside all of us...

we need to connect with our energy force and live through our wisdom....difficult enough????

One may think of "God", as Good Orderly Direction. God is love, God is good. "Spiritual" is the path I attempt to follow, religion can kiss my banana

I was taught there was a Jesus, I have no reason to doubt him. My belief is that Jesus was a spiritual being rather than a religious being. I once heard a "Preacher" state that Christ died for ALL of our sins and that would include past, present & future. He is the only Preacher that made sense to me.

God does not cause the disasters people do, God gives man free will and it is man that creates those disasters.

But what the hell do I know, I am old & senile. It is always a good excuse..grin

Let us not forget gentlemen, it was Eve (a woman) that first disobeyed God's commands..

Hence, we can blame "women" for all of our misdeeds..devil

I don't like the term God fearing person either..

I agree that feelings for God should be associated with only positive things like "love"..

We should not keep ourselves from doing wrong out of fear from God, but out of good will and love towards humanity JMO

Lot of false ideas about God out there.

Not to worry. We all get 'there'. (the idea of 'with God'.)

Just some correction needed.
It's all about the mind.

freak...

Christians don't pray to mother Mary for forgiveness, Catholics do...

Catholics also pray to and for the "POPE" and make their own rules, where as Christians do not.....

they are catogorized as the same "Christians" by society

But beleive differently...as I said before..

You can't get to Heaven, praying to mother Mary or the Pope..They can't get you there.....

I am not confused you are man, sorry

we think differently we are not the same...

The Christian Bible even states " be weary of men in black robes, who call themselves "father" who dwell within the house of the unwed women..... I don't know why the catholics to that verse out of their bible???????????????????
