It depends on the people involved. I've known of many that work, even in an area as prejudiced as the one I live in (prejudices that I wasn't raised with since I'm not originally from this area). If two people truly connect and love each other, race/culture shouldn't be a factor. It can pose its difficulties, though, with friends and family, and takes great strength and commitment on the part of the two people involved in the relationship, and even more of all of the ingredients that make any relationship work.

Certainly there are many mixed marriages that work well. But it can put additional challenges or strain on a couple, especially when starting out. There may be pressure from family and community against the relationship, and these differences in cultural background often mean differences in expectations and ways of seeing the world which have to be worked out.
But love is a pretty powerful thing, and many couples have resolved those issues and developed strong and long lasting relationships despite them.

Are not a man and a woman different....can they not be Northerner and Southerner, rich and poor, tightwad and free spender.....etc. In all things a man and a woman can be different and can love each other enough to grow together into one. I see no difference in these things and race/cultures...love is the answer....the true love of the other and the love of each growing toward each other. Take two the exact same without the right love and it will never never work...that is the me..me..me kind of love.

I think it depends on the two people involved, just like any other relationship. All relationships have their problems, and with love, trust, communication, and respect, all of them can be worked through. Why would interracial or intercultural marriages be any different?

Knowing full well if mixed race/culture marriages can work, my answer is, Yes they can, and do. Some may not, and there are many variables in the lives of both, which can act in a positive, or negative manner on the marriage. Heck, you can find a greater amount of marriages between two, of similar face/culture, that have not worked, then you can of those that have. You can easily do searches and find, since the 1950's-60's divorce rates have increased among those of single race/culture, while the mixed race rate is only slightly higher. "The "Ten Truths about Interracial Marriage" that close the book acknowledge that mixed race couples experience the same stresses as everyone else in addition to those arising from other people's prejudice or curiosity. Their divorce rates are only slightly higher than those of single race couples, which suggests that their success or failure at marriage is not necessarily a racial issue."

I think they work and what does it matter anyway? When two people are in love, skin color matters not. I have an interracial couple living next to me and they are very close. Who cares what society thinks when you have the love of your life in your life regardless of the color?
