Ambrose2007: I wasn't sure if I was chomping or champing, but whatever it was did involve a lot of teeth-clenching and heavy breathing (not in a good way).
Lovely new photo of you, btw.
Thank you, darling!!
And so glad to see such excellent punctuation, of course!!
In response to: I see this constantly - for example, many would write "apostrophe's" instead of "apostrophes" or "horse's" instead of "horses." I'm just curious where people get the idea that apostrophes convert a singular word into a plural form.
Now I'll sit back and grin with satisfaction as this thread takes off!

"apostrophe , a rhetorical figure in which the speaker addresses a dead or absent person, or an abstraction or inanimate object. In classical rhetoric, the term could also denote a speaker's turning to address a particular member or section of the audience. Apostrophes are found frequently among the speeches of Shakespeare's characters, as when Elizabeth in Richard III addresses the Tower of London:
Pity, you ancient stones, those tender babes Whom envy hath immured within your walls.
The figure, usually employed for emotional emphasis, can become ridiculous when misapplied, as in Wordsworth's line Spade! with which Wilkinson hath tilled his lands
The apostrophe is one of the conventions appropriate to the ode and to the elegy. The poet's invocation of a muse in epic poetry is a special form of apostrophe."
I love the way the word can be used in terms of talking to a brick wall too.....
Ambrose2007: Erring, certainly, but lack of knowledge of basic language-rules, when that basic knowledge requires only minimal effort? What does it say about a person who makes little or no effort to spell correctly or to construct coherent sentences?
To me, and this is MY opinion only, it reflects lack of knowledge of the English language but has nothing to do with intellect.
I know of many highly intelligent men and women who do not know how to properly use the word too, if they know at all.
To be totally honest, I delete those profiles of men who email me who have numerous typos and/or spelling errors throughout their profiles. It reflects laziness, to me, to not proofread their verbiage.

Isn't it funny how the mob is bashing in on me in my thread and calling me names and anti-semitic and whatever else - and you really are saying the same thing and people love ya ---- go figure
Ambrose2007: I've never met such an individual myself, but I concur with your other post that it's mostly a psychological statement (of laziness, indifference, or whatever) to not make the effort to write well.
Yes, and if they show laziness in their profile, posts, and/or threads, psychologically they are probably very lazy in other aspects of their life which I would not wish to be a part of, since I try to do well in everything I attempt.

Herd mentality??? I don't understand the need for name calling or going off topic either? Some seem to follow others in threads just to post something negative which I never did understand????

They are idiots because they fail to educate themselves. I'm seeing it more and more in the business world. It is a real irritant. I look the word irritant up in the dictionary to make sure I spelled it right. Didn't take long, or cause any undue stress to my brain. I reread by post and found two errors you won't see.
