So maybe I'm just alone here. I'm using an insulin pump & CGMS, I don't find it a big deal to check my sugar levels via fingerstick and insert the infusion set for my pump and the needle and catheter for the CGMS. I was dating who i thought was a great guy, until he actually saw me insert the infusion set. He ran to the bathroom and vomited all over the floor, when I took the intoducer needle out of my stomach. Any idea's how to help any man, not be so squeamish about seeing the needles, or the small amount of blood? Or for that matter, anyone know where I can find a man that isn't afraid of needles?

Not all men are squeamish. I have given myself stitches and even put my eye back in my head. Lots of blood but it had to be done. I am not overly fond of needles more due to the mechanical way that the blood flows with each pump of the old ticker though, but it is bearable and I would never be sick or afraid.hug

Oh yeah I have seen plenty of blood come out of about every part of me and It is still scary, but if it's a procedure I have grown used to like pricking my finger for blood to sugar test I can handle it. But there are some things I still can't handle.laugh laugh

On top of that I have saved two lives.
One, a man who was building a camp at the lake down from where we were camping. I was about 12 years old and had been fishing in my canoe and was returning up the hill with my gear when he fell off of a log where he was cutting a notch. He had split his foot between the second and third toes almost to the ankle. I tied my shirt around his leg and propped it up with a splint. Made a quick travois and dragged him back to my father who drove him to the hospital. I looked like I was in a Friday the 13th film with all the blood on my clothes and body.
The second was an elderly man who had brought a chainsaw out to cut a Christmas tree and it skipped off a knot and struck him in the neck. I rushed to his side applied pressure and snow to the wound to dilate the capilaries and we (my friend and I) rushed him to the emergency room. Again another bloody mess that was everywhere.
Two lives saved by just doing what had to be done.

Oh I basically did the same thing with my husband, he was running a Mark v table saw and that thing didn't have a safety guard over the blade and it was next to the cut off switch.
When I heard him scream my heart sunk I knew it was serious. I went back there and thank God he didn't cut off his fingers, but it had sawed from the side of his hand half the bones in half. Oh Gosh I grabbed a clean cloth wrapped around his hand tight. Grabbed a blanket to wrap him up in and took him to the porch into the sun for instant heat, He was pale and going into shock. I called his mom cause she could be there faster than the ambulance or me loading up babies. He had to go to a larger hospital to save his hand and they did well. He has his hand thankfully and not perfect but very functional after he got used to having the tendons rerouted and etc.doh

I check my blood twice a day. Took care of my late
husband with needle injections, then he went on
dialysis 3 times weekly. Was given a stomach bag,
can't remember the medical term right now, but it was
so we could do his treatments at home and not have to
do that long drive 3 times weekly. I did all that for
him and would do it again. Love will conquer about
anything.

I'm glad to know there are so many men out there that it doesn't bother. I do my BG fingersticks 6-8 times a day, so my fingers kinda look like pincushions! I've been a T1 for 18 years, and I used to draw up my insulin through the syringe, then switched over to a novopen. I started using the MM722 pump when I was preg. with my DD.(try finding an infusion site on your stomach with a huge belly!)
It seemed to really bother some guys, when I would use my pen at the table to do my injection. I have been asked to go to the bathroom and do it. However, its very discreet. With my pump, I just unclip it from my belt and push a few buttons, yet it seems to still bother some men. Any advice on how to make it less "offending"?

Nope...sounds like you're doing well.

There are plenty of us around who aren't afraid of needles or blood. I was a Medical Assistant and went to Nursing school for a while...needles, infusion pumps, and blood don't bother me one bit. Nor do they bother millions of people. And, as someone mentioned, there are millions of diabetics out there as well. Hang in there, Ang, and eventually you'll find the right one.

hug Welcome to CS. wave ~Dru

Most definetly tough! I have broke almost all bones in my body, from car accidents, breaking horses, riding bulls, and learing not to jump from an airplane(skydiving) and landing on water. It's like landing on glass. I had a pretty bad car accident, and I am very lucky to be alive. Took me 3 years to start walking again, yet alone being able to go back to work. I'm a paramedic/firefighter.
